FOUNTAIN PAINT BRUfiH.

I if as UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 12, 1906.
Application filed March '7, 1905. Serial No. 248,935-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. ABBOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Whittier, count of Los A11 eles, and State of California, ave invented a certain new and, useful Im rovement in Fountain Paint- Brushes, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in fountain paintbrushes, and has for its object to provide a novel paintbrush-which will be in connection by means of a flexible tube with the supply of paint, said paint adapted to be fed continuously to the brush, said brush being provided with means whereby the operator can. control the sup ly.
V fith these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set fprth and then specifically designated by the c aim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction and o eration will now be described in detail, refiirring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in wh1ch- I Figure 1 is a vertical section through a aint-brush provided with my improvement; ig. 2, a vertical section taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
A represents the handle of the paintbrush, which is made in the ordinary manner, except that it has a tube B extending longitudinally therethrough.
C designates the bristles of the brush secured to the handle in any manner desired.
D is a feeder ada ted to feed the aint to the bristles. This l deder is preferably made of india-rubber, so as to bend with the bristles of the brush. Said feeder is secured to the inner end of the handle and adapted to lie in the center of the bristles and has tapering passages E formed therein, all of said passages being connected at one end F with a suitable supply of paint which may be fed to the brush elther by force or gravity.
G is 'a valve connected to a valve-stem H, which extends through the handle A and has secured at its outer end a button I.
J is a s ring interposed between the button or head fend the handle of the brush. This spring tends to always hold the valve G within the passage B and prevent the flow of paint; but by ressing inward upon the button I more or ess paint may be allowed to flow through the passage to the feeder, and thus the operator while wielding the brush may control the supply by a simple pressure of the thumb upon the button I and the aint will flow into the feeder D and be discharged from there to all of the bristles.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction here shown, as slight modifications could be made without departing from the s irit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is In a paint-brush, a head having a handle, said head being provided with a recess, a feeder-block fitting within the recess, said feeder-block being provided with series of' diverging channels, a tube passing through the handle and head and communicating with the channels in the feeder-block, bristles carried by the head surrounding the block, and means for holding the bristles to the head, said means also holding the block to the head.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES II. ABBOTT.
