Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented npr.. 13, 1915..
Application iIed 2l' une 15, 1914. Serial No. 84r5,222.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ll, WALTER HERMAN S'ronnn, a citizen of vthe United States, .residing at Cheney., in the'county of Sedg wiel; and State Vof Kansas, have invented' certain new 4and useful Improvements in Fountain-Brushes, of which the :following -Elll llB`ig. 2 represents a is a specication.
'lhis invention relatesv to paintinglm'a- Ichines and more particularly tra a fountain brush, and has for its objectI to provide a device of this' character of simple and efflcient constructionembodying avnozzle positioned betweenthe bristles of the brush and counicatinb with a feed-pipe, and a fab-- vrie covering or the nozzle primarily designed to re ulate .the dow of paint and assist the brist es in spreading it.
ith this Iand other.objects in view, the invention consists in vthe novel construction, arrangement and gthe formation of parts as will hereinafter specifically described,
claimed and illustrated in the accompany-y 'wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a suitable tank or reservoir provided with a handle or shoiilder-strap 6 whereby the device may be conveniently carried by the opera' tor. The tank is also provided with -a suit able filling opening and an outlet pipe 7'in its lower end controlledy by a valve 8 and counicating with the feed-pipe 9 preferably of dexlble tubing. The feed-pipe or tube 9 is connected at its outer end with feed-pipe 10 communicating with the noz-- zle 11 and extending longitudinally through an opening in the handle 12 of the brush having the usual head 14. Bristles 13 are secured in the head 14: and the latter is formed with a recess constituting a seat for the nozzle 1l arranged substantially centrally between the bristles 13. i
A covering 15 of a suitable fabric'such as canvas or similar material of durable and inexpensive character is positioned over the nozzle 11 between the latter and the wall and the seat in the brush-head 14., rllhevfree edges 16 of the covering are extended to a point nearly adjacent to the free ends ofthe bristles '13 and the edges thereofare frayed:
=to provide a plurality of tlireads extended parallel with the bristles 13. The portions of the fabric 15 adjacent the threads 16 vnormally lie in contact and regulate the flow of liquid to` the bristles 13 and materially assist the latter in spreading and distributing the paint.4
What ll claim is:
` A fountain brush comprising a handlev having a longitudinal opening therethrough and an integra-l head having a transversely extending seat communicating with said 'Opening, a feed-pipe positioned Within said longitudinal opening, a nozzle positioned within said seat and communicating with said feed-pipe, bristles secured in said Ahead, 'and a fabric covering positioned Within said seat under said nozzle, extending to a point nearly adjacent the free ends of the bristles vand having the edges thereof vfrayed to provide a plurality of threads extending parallel .with thebristles.
In testimony whereof l aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
