ATTACHMENT FOR BROOIVIS OR BRUSHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 665,632, dated January 8, 1901.
Application filed May l0, 1900.
To au whom t may concern:
Be it known that. I, LOUIS FINIELS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of No. 148 Elm street, New Rochelle, county of Westchester, and State ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Brooms or Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to an improvement in attachments for brooms and brushes; and the object thereof is to provide a device of this character which is adaptable for use in combination with brushes and brooms of ordinary construction and which embodies a scraper and a fine brush portion, whereby when the device is attached to the broom or brush an efficient article is provided which is adaptable for use in the operation of cleaning several different kinds of material.
The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the anneXed claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved attachment, showing t-he same in connection with a whiskbroom; Fig. 2, an edge elevation; and Fig. 3, a longitudinal elevation, partly in section, showing a modified construction applicable for an ordinary bristle clothes-brush.
In the practice of my invention as shown by Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings I employ an upper resilient band A and a lower resilient band B, both bands being composed, preferably, of rubber; but other suitable iiexible material may be employed, if desired. Bridging these two bands on one side is a ieXible base-plate O, having a series of teeth or projections c extended over its entire outer surface and preferably formed integral therewith. These teeth act as Scrapers for removing mud or other hardened substances not susceptible of being removed by the ordinary whisk-broom or bristle brush. The opposite side of the device embodies a base sheet or plate D, which carries upon its outer surface a brush d, which is preferably of very iine quality, or of a' quality differing Widely from the ordinary brush to which the device is at- Serial No. 16,118. (No model.)
tached, whereby it may be employed as a means for brushing very fine fabrics.
The device may be slightly modified in form to make it adaptable for attachment to vari ous kinds of clothes-brushes. For instance, as shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings, the attachment embodies a rubber band E, having the rubber base-sheets F and G formed integral therewith and stretched over the back h of the ordinary bristle clothes-brush H, the band E tightly encircling the bristle-body of the brush to keep the device in place. In this structure the teeth c are extended over the surface of the base F to cover one end portion of the brush-back, and the fine brush cl is attached to the surface of the base-sheet Gr to cover the opposite end portion of the brush-back.
In the operation and use of the device it is readily stretched over and attached to a suitable brush by reason of the resilient nature of its component parts, and it is obvious that a handy and effective device is provided for cleaning and brushing various kinds of materials.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. An attachment for brushes and brooms embodying oppositely-located base -sheets, carrying respectively a plurality of Scrapers, and a ne brush, and means for fastening said attachment to brushes and brooms substantially as illustrated and described.
2. In a device for brushing and cleaning fabrics, the combination of a scraper embodying a plurality of teeth, a ne brush, and 0ppositely-located base-sheets, carrying respectively the said brush and scraper, with means embodying resilient bands, for encircling brushes and brooms, and affording facility for attaching the said device thereto, all substantially as illustrated and described.
In Itestimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 26th day of April, 1900.
LOUIS FINIELS.
