Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
GEORGE F. ATWOOD, OF SWANTON, VERMONT.
SUSPTENDER-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,975, dated April 17, 1883. Application `filed January 24, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE F. A'rwooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Swanton, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and usefnl Improvements in Suspender-Loops and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable other skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
This invention relates to certain improvements in suspender-loops; and it has for its objects to provide improved means for attaching the cord to the metallic portion of the device, as more fully hereinafter specied. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a view partly in section, showing my invention; Fig. 2, an elevation of the device; Fig. 3, a longitudinal sectional view thereof; Fig. 4, an elevation of a modification of my invention; Fig. 5, a detached view of a portion o t' said modification, and Fig. 6 a view ofa metallic blank by means of which the cord is connected to the metallic portions of the device.
In the said drawings, the letter A indicates the cord, which is in the form of a loop, as usual, and B a metallic clamp by which the ends of the looped cord are held. The said clamp is constructed of a blank of sheet metal cut to the shape shown in Fig. 6, the side flaps, a, of which are bent over the ends of the cords, so as to bind the same in the clamp. The portion bis bent longitudinally around one side of the metallic wire loop C, and the prong d is bent down into the ends of the loop, so as to hold it securely in place.
As shown in Figs. l, 2, and 3 ofthe drawl ings, the ends of the metallic loopl are provided with teeth or spurs, and are extended into the 4 5 clamping device, at each side of the ends of the cord loop, and the extremities of said metallic loop are bent inward, so as to bite77 into the cord-loop and assist in holding the same.
As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the metallic loop is replaced by a metallic frame, D, which is bent at c, so as to form a rearward projection, g, which is attened and bent upward at its end. This extends into the clamping device, and the uptnrned end serves, in conjunction with the other parts, to bind the ends ot the looped cord in the clamping device. The. ends of the said frame (indicated by theletter F) have secured to them the frame E of the buckle, which is formed ot' stamped sheet metal and attached to the portions F ot' the wire frame, as indicated by Fig. et of the drawings.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a suspender-loop, the combination, with the looped cord and wire loop, having toothed extremities which take into the cord, ot the clamp provided with side and end aps bent over and partially around the cord and wire loop, whereby the parts are firmly secured together, substantially as described.
2. In a suspcnderloop, the combination, with the looped cord and the wire having pointed and bentextremities, thelatter adapted to take into the cord,ot the bnckleframe, and the clamp having side and end flaps adapted to be bent over and partially round vthe wire loop and cord, substantially as described.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE F. ATWOOD.
