-PETERS PHQTO-LIYHOGRAPHER, wAsHmGTON. D C.
llNiTEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J ULIEN TREFOUSSE, OF GHAUMONT, FRANCE.
CLASP FOR GLOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,539, dated March 8, 1881,
Application filed September 6, 1880. (No model.) Patented in France August 10, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIEN TRE'Fo ssE, of Ohaumont, in the Republic of France, have invented an Improved Clasp for Holding the Fastening-String of Gloves, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent of France for fifteen years, dated August 10, 1880 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to a clasp of peculiar construction for holding and biting the lacingcord.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings shows an inner-side view of a glove having the improved clasp c, and showing how it is used in connection with other clasps of ordinary construction. Fig.2 is a face view of the blank for the improved clasp, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the improved cord-securing clasp.
The glove (0 is provided with the usual opening, the edges 1) b of which are furnished with guiding-clasps c in suitable numbers and placed at regular distances apart, and so disposed that their months are all turned away from the opening of the glove.
d is the lacing-cord.
Fig.3 shows in detail and Fig. 1 in its place the improved clasp c for firmly attaching the cord at to the glove. This clasp c is folded to be U-shaped from the blank shown in Fig. 2, and has downwardly-projecting prongs e on its upper wing, and no prongs on the lower part, which is flat and straddled by the said prongs, in order to firmly take hold of the cord d, the end of which is inserted in this clasp, after which the prongs c are passed through the glove and washer and bent flat beneath them.
The glove a is provided with a number of ordinary clasps, c, and with one of the improved clasps c placed near the upper end of the opening of the glove, and the glove may be closed by introducing the cord at in zigzag line into the clasps 0, as shown.
If convenient, the clasp 0 may be placed nearer to the middle of the opening of the glove, among the other clasps, c. In this case the cord 61 should be united to said clasp c in the middle of its length, and its introduction in the other clasps, 0, should be by doubling it and fitting each of its strands into said clasps.
I do not claim the clasps 0, nor a glove having cord-biting appliances along its opening, as such clasps and such gloves are old.
I claim- The U-shaped clasp 0', having downwardly-projecting prongs on its upper fold or part, and a fiat lower fold or part, substantially as herein shown and described.
J ULIEN TREFOUSSE.
