UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JENNIE B. MOORE, OF COVINGTON, KENTUCKY.
DRESS-STAY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,480, dated November 28, 1893.
Application filed September 1, 1892. Serial No. 444,784. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JENNIE B. MOORE, of Covington, county of Kenton, and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Stays, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to stays for garments, and it has for its object to provide a stay with a fixed fastening device by which it may be secured to a garment.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of my improved stay and fastening. Fig. 2, is a perspectve view showing my stay secured in a section of a garment; and Fig. 3, is a detail view of the fastening.
Referring to the figures on the drawings: l indicates a stay which may be made of any suitable material, and of any suitable and desirable shape.
2 indicates a fastening, rectangular in shape, of the same width as the stay and se` cured thereto, provided with proj ecting prongs 3 at each of its corners, adapted to be passed through the fabric 5, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and bent back to secure the same and the stay together. The fastening is preferably made of some metal which may be easily bent, but which is of suicient strength to hold the garment when the laps are folded upon it. purpose.
Thin sheet brass is suitable for this For securing the fastener upon the stay, I employ a clip or prong struck from the body of the fastening at its center, which is adapted to be passed through a central aperture 6 in the stay and to be bent to hold it securely in place.
I am aware that separate fastenings for stays are old; and that fastenings adapted to be secured to the goods are old, but
What I claim is- The combination with a stay provided with a medial aperture, of a fastening device consisting of a rectangular body part of the-same width as the stay, and provided withaprong struck from its center and adapted to be passed through the aperture in the stay, and to be bent thereon to secure the fastening device and stay together, said body part having prongs at each of its corners, respectively, adapted to be passed through the fabric and bent upon the stay from the opposite sides thereof to hold said fabric and stay securely together, substantially as specified.
In testimony of all which I have hereunto subscribed my name.
JENNIE B. MOORE.
