- This invention relates to an improved fastening means for buttons, or the like, which consists of a wire secured to the head of the button or similar article and bent into two helices which are pointed, and preferably pointed on opposite sides of the helices to make the entrance of the pointed ends easy and balanced.

FASTENING DEVICE FOR BUTTONS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN J OACHIM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices for Buttons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved fastening means for buttons, or the like, which consists of a wire secured to the head of the button or similar article and bent into two helices which are pointed, and preferably pointed on opposite sides of the helices to make the entrance of the pointed ends easy and balanced.
Another object of the invention is to provide such helix formation to each wire, terminating the helices short of the head so that the element, such as cloth, to which the device is attached, fits in between fiat loops of the wire and the back of the head so that the head and its helices must be positively turned in order that the button or similar article can be removed.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the button of my improved construction. Fig. 2 is a back view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a top View showing the wire forming the screw or helices in section.
My device comprises any kind of head 10, whether it be a button or any other article which requires fastening. Said head has secured thereto, at the back thereof, a wire 11, each end of which is formed into a helix to form the attaching means. The wire 11 is secured to the button in any way, but preferably by having a straight portion pass through the loop or perforated boss 12, leaving two ends of the wire of equal length which are then bent as at 13 on the end of Specification of Letters Patent.

the looped or straight portion of the wire 11 which is behind the boss 12. Each end of the wire, after being bent at 18, is bent into a portion 14: eccentric to the center of the screw or helix, each of these eccentric portions 14 being substantially fiat and formed at a slight distance from the back of the head 10 so that a flat surface is presented on both sides of any element to which the button is secured. The curved portions 1 1 of each end of the wire are then bent into a helix 15 provided with a point 16, each of these helices and the points and the eccentric portions being diagonally arranged so that the screw portion or fastening means is balanced and any pressure exerted thereon, to screw it into a garment or to move it therefrom, will cause an even application of power to all parts of the device. The eccentric portion and the helix of each end of the wire form a tighter grip on the article into which they are screwed, such as a piece of cloth, and cause a tight binding of the parts after the button has penetrated far enough to cause its head to engage the cloth.
This device is cheap and simple and is positive in its operation, and the particular means of fastenin the wire to the button is not set forth hereln, and applicant is aware that other means than that illustrated can be employed to fasten the wire to the head.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A device of the kind described comprising a head having a wire secured thereto, the wire having ends of equal length which are bent into substantially fiat curved portions which are approximately parallel with the back of the head and spaced therefrom, each of the curved portions then being formed into oppositely arranged helices, the end of each helix being pointed.
