GLOVE-FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,262, dated August 2, 1881. Application filed June s, 1881. (Model) To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALVIN G.Nononoss, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and in the State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Gloves and other Articles of Wearing-Apparel; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying IO drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improved fastening for gloves and various other articles of 1 wearing-apparel; and it has for its object to provide a device that will be inexpensive, simple in construction, and which may be readily secured to the glove or other article, and when thus secured can be used as a lever to draw the parts to be fastened together, and then shifted so as to securely fasten them, as more fully hereinafter set forth. attain by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a detached perspective view of my improved device. The letter A indicates a link, which may be constructed of wire or sheet metal, formed midway between its ends with bends or recesses B.

and then bending them down upon the under side and up into the body of the material, as indicated by the letter E, or by passing the ends after they have been passed through the 5 material upward through it again, and then bending the ends down upon the outside and into the body of the material, as indicated by the letter F. The link A is permanently secured to the staple in such manner that it may be moved from end to end upon the same for the purpose of fastening or unfastening, as more fully hereinafter specified. The operation of my invention is as follows: To fasten the glove or other article the link is moved upon the staple until one of its ends is held thereby. The other end is then passed through the aperture G and the link is operated as a lever to draw the parts together and pull the staple through the aperture. After this the link is shifted until the staple falls into the recess or bend B, whereby it is held in position to fasten the parts. To unfasten the parts the above operation has simply to be reversed.

The advantages of my device are that it can be made and applied at little expense, it is not liable to get out of order, and that it may be operated both in fastening and unfastening by pushing the link from either end, thus preventing confusion and inconvenience to the wearer in the manipulation of the device. Moreover, as the link sets flatly against the article, it will notbe liable to catch in other portions of the dress, and will not bear injuriously against the person of the wearer.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A fastening device for gloves and other articles, consisting of a staple adapted to be 85 secured to such articles and a link having an unobstructed slot from end to end, and bent or recessed midwaybetween its ends and adapted to move from end to end on the staple, substantially as specified. o

2. In an improved glove-fastener, the combination, with staple 0, adapted to be attached to a glove or other article, of thelink A, having recess B midway its length, adapted to slide on the staple from end to end, all sub- 5 stantially as set forth.
