Pocket-Books.
NO} 5 955 Patentedjap.19,1875.-..
W'tn'esses: Inventor:
UNITED STATES ATEN FIG.
CHARLES LIEB, or new YORK, n. Y.
IMPROVEMSENT IN POCKET-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1158;955, dated January 19, 1875; applicationfiled J nne 24, 1874.
produce a strong, durable pocketbook. The construction of my clasp is fully here inafter described, and pointed out in the claim. In the drawing, the letter A designates a pocket-book, of which B are the side flaps,
and O the partitions, connected together by metal clasps a. One of these clasps I have shown on a slightly-enlarged scale in Fig. 3.
- The clasps are of a peculiar construction, being of a strip or back, 1), formed with a point, e, and with two side checks, 0 c, which are arranged as next described.
In carrying out my invention, I fold the flaps B at the proper places, and pass the point of a clasp through each outer fold, at
such adistance from the top that when theback I) is bent over the top edge of the flaps the side cheeks c 0 are brought on the inside thereof, as shown. The point e is preferably bent at right angles to the back I), so that when applied or passed through the folds it can be bent, as shown in Fig. 3, then clinched, and the back bis bent over the back or top edge of the flaps, as last above stated, so that the partitions G are embraced by the side cheeks, and the latter being also clinched or compressed, the side flaps and partitions are united or connected to each other. The immediate connection between the side flaps and partitions is through the back I), which is on the top edge thereof, by reason of which the pocket-book can be opened or spread to its utmost capacity withoutimpediment, and without danger of tearing.
I am aware that it is not broadly new to confine together the flaps of pocket-books by means of metallic clasps, and such of itself I do not claim; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The metallic clasp herein described for connecting together the flaps of pocket-books, the same consisting of the strip or back 1), formed with the point e and checks 0 c, at right angles to said back, .and the whole adapted to be clinched into position for connecting the flaps of pocket-books, in the manner herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
- CHARLES LIEB.
