Description
(No Model.)
W. MUELLER; CORSET FASTENING.
No. 361,593. Patented Apr. 19, 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
WILI-IELM MUELLER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CORSET-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 361,593, dated April 19, 1887.
Seria11\'o.223,880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM MUELLER, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in-Oorset-Fastenings, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a perspective view of my improved fastening, showing the stays in section. Fig. II is a similar view showing a modified form.
My invention relates to that class of fastenings of corsets which cannot be accidentally detached; and it consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, 1 1 represent the stays. 2 represents a slotted catch secured by rivets 5 to one of the stays, and 3 the ordinary headed pin secured to the other stay. To prevent the accidental un fastening of these parts, I form at the unriveted end of the catch 2 a spring-extension, which is bent up and over the slot of the catch at 4 6, and is then bent downward with an outturned portion, 7, as shown in Fig. I, or with an inturned portion, 8, as shown in the modified form, Fig. II. Both of these enlarged portions or stops 7 8 are to be so arranged relatively to the other parts that they will lie over the usual enlarged portion of the slotted catch. It
will be seen, therefore, that the accidental disengagement of the pins from the catches, after they have been inserted in the enlarged portions of the slots and moved over Will be pre vented by the action of the spring-extension, of which the stops cover the enlargements, as just described. This stop or spring-extension being formed in one piece with the catch can be made cheaply by reason of its simplicity, and great elasticity will be given to the end of the extensionthe stop -to permit it to be moved up freely to allow the fastening to be undone.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a corset-fastening, the combination of the catch, the pin,and inturned extension having a stop for the pin, substantially as set' forth.
2. In a corset-fastening, the combination of the catclrprovided with an eye enlarged at one end, the pin adapted to enter the eye, an inturned extension on the catch having a downturned portion provided with an enlargement which registers over the enlargement of the eye, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
\VILHELM MUELLER.
In presence of- EDW. S. KNIGHT, SAML. KNIGHT.
