SHADE PULL.
APPLICATION men MAR. 9. 1915.
1.3; 92,198 Patented July 1916.
Wninesses: Jim/e71 for:
ALFRED G. O. HIX, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SHADE-FULL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1916.
Application filed March 9, 1915. Serial No. 13,117.
provide a shade pull which can be attached to a shade quickly and conveniently, withoutdanger of damaging the cloth of the shade.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shade pull which can be attached to and removed from the shade without the use of any tool.
A further object of the invention is to provide a shade pull which can be attached to or removed from the shade without undue strain or bending of the material of the null. l The accompanying drawings illustrate an embodiment of my invention, and referring thereto: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the pull. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof on line 22 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the pull in open position. Fig; 4 is a front view of the pull in position for attachment to the shade, the front member of the pull being turned down to open position to facilitate such attachment. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. l, showing the front member swung up to secure the pull on the shade. Fig. 6 is a vertical section of the lower portion of a shade with the pull thereon. Fig. 7 is a section'on line 77 in Fig. 2. Fig. 8 is a section on line 8-8 in Fig. 2.
A shade pull embodying the principles of my invention comprises two pieces of metal, the rear member 1 and the front member 2, both members being stamped from resilient or spring sheet metal.
The lower shade slat is wedge shaped in cross section and is mounted in a loop at the lower edge of the shade cloth 11, the
thick edge of the slat 15 being at the bottom as shown in Fig. 6.
The rear member 1 has a flat inclined upper attaching portion 18 adapted to fit against the cloth 11 covering the rear side of the slat 1.5,and prongs 5 are stamped from the body of said upper portion 18 and adapted to pierce the cloth and enter the slat, and openings 7 and 7 are formed in said upper portion 18 to reduce the weight and for ornamentation; a bent intermediate spacing portion 12 extends forwardly and downwardly from the lower edge of the flat inclined upper portion 18 and is adapted to fit up against the bottom of the slat 15, said bent portion having an opening 10 through which the cord 16 may be inserted, there being a knot 17 upon the upper end of the cord to fasten the cord to the shade pull; a flat bearing portion 19 extends downwardly from the forward edge of the spacing portion 12 and has a horizontal central circular opening 3 and has a locking indentation ll. lhe spacing portion 12 is adapted to bring the bearing portion 19 into a plane near the front face of the slat 15, and said spacing portion 12 is of a substantial width so as to extend some distance longitudinally of the slat and make a good bearing connection between the shade pull and the slat.
The front member 2 has a flat oppositely inclined upper clamping portion 20 adapted to fit against the cloth 11 covering the front side of the slat and openings 8 and 8 are formed through said portion to reduce the weight and for ornamentation and the side edges 6 are rounded or bent outwardly so as to slide over the cloth; a bent intermediate second spacing portion 21 extends clownwardly and backwardly from the lower edge of the clamping portion 20; a flat second bearing portion 22 extends downwardly from the rear lower edge of the second spacing portion 21 and fits against the first bearin g portion 19 of the rear member, there being a locked tooth or projection 13 stamped from the second bearing portion 22 to engage in the locking indentation let of the first bearing portion 19 to hold the members 1, 2 in alinement and an eyelet 3 is stamped from the second bearing portion 22 and inserted through the opening 3 in the first bearing portion 19 and upset to form a pivot to hold the two members 1 and. 2 firmly together and allow the members to turn one upon the other, said pivot being crosswise of the slat so that the pressure of the slat will not turn the members upon the pivot.
In applying the shade pull to the shade,
the front member 2 is turned downwardly to its open position, as shown in Fig. 4, the attaching portion 18 is placed against the cloth 11 at the back side of the slat 15 with slat 15 and tend to pull the spacing portion or slat bearing portion 12 upwardly against the slat and hold the shade-pull from=a tendency to oscillate upon the slat. The line of the pivot is crosswise of-the slat so that the pressure of the slat will have no tendency to turn the members upon the pivot 1 and thespring pressure of'the members will firmly grip the slat. At the same time the shade pull is readily applied and easily removed. 1
Thecord 16 may be inserted through the eyelet 3 and through the opening 10 and knotted, as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and '6, or it may be=looped throughthe eyelet, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
I claim:
A shade pull comprising: a rear member having a fiat inclined attaching portion with prongs projecting inwardly, a wide bent Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents eaclnby addressing the Commissioner of latents, '1.
inclined clamping portion in opposition to said attaching portion, a second spacing portion extending inwardly from the lower side of the clamping portion, and a second fiat bearing portion extending downwardly from said second spacing portion and fitting against the first bearing portion, an eyelet pressed from the'center of one flat bearing portion and extending through the center of the other bearing portion and upset so as to pivotally connect the members, the line of the pivot being crosswise of the line'of the shade slat when applied, said rear and front members being formed of resilient metal and said attaching and clamping portions being over bent toward each other so as to be spring pressed against a wedge shaped shade slat and hold said slat bearing and spacing portion firmly against the loweredge of the slat when applied.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at Los Angeles, California, this 3rd day of March, 1915;
ALFRED G. O. HIX.
