A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT T. ROBERTS, OF LA HARPE, ILLINOIS.
SPECTACLE-CASE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 532,288, dated January 8, 1895.
Application filed May 23, 1894;. Serial No, 512,152. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
1 Be it known that I, ROBERT T. ROBERTS, of La Harpe, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Spectacle-Case Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to furnish a simple device or clasp provided with a means of fastening a spectacle case to the pocket of a garment, to prevent the loss or misplacement of the spectacles.
The invention essentially differs in construction from those pencil or other like clasps provided with a barbed spring or hook for securing the pencil or other like article to the pocket or other part of a garment, as such clasps are loose or removable, and are of such construction as to adapt them to said articles only, and are not adapted to form a spectacle case holder.
The spectacle case holder which is the subject of this invention clasps around the spectacle case, and when applied is designed to be a permanent fixture on the case, it having two ends which clamp the case, the one of said ends being of loop form, and the other end being passed through said loop, drawn tight, and bent down backward over the loop when applying the holder to the spectacle case. Said holder furthermore has an armor projection arranged to extend outside of the pocket, and provided with bent barbs or hooks to catch in the cloth of the garment after being pressed into same, to hold the case in the pocket, substantially as hereinafter shown and described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 represents a view in perspective of a spectacle case with my newly invented holder in its most approved form, applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the spectacle case as resting within the pocket of a garment, shown also in section, and as fastened thereto by said holder; and Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the spectacle case holder before it is applied to said case, and as it may be supplied separately to the trade or others for attachment to the case, and to be sold separately or as applied to and in connection with the spectacle case.
case to the pocket in a permanent or fixed manner independently of putting the spectacles in or out of the case and, unlike the pencil or other like clasps hereinbefore referred to, not designed to spring open to let the contents of the case in or out. To these ends, my improved holder is made in the form of a band adapted to clasp around the spectacle case and with two interlocking ends a b,the one of which I), is of loop form and the other end a made so that it may be entered through the loop, be drawn tight and bent down backward over the loop, as shown in Fig. 1, thus permanently securing the holder to the case and bracing the latter.
This band or holder may be made of any suitable kind of metal of any desired shape in transverse section, but preferably of wire, and with an arm or projection 01 parallel with the length of the case A, adapted to extend outside of the pocket B, and provided at its lower or outer end with barbs or hooks e e, which upon being pressed firmly into the cloth securely fasten the case to the pocket. This arm or projection d, it will be observed, is on theopposite side of the case to the intel-locking ends a b of the holder, and may be made by twisting the wire of the holder about itself as shown in the drawings, thus giving additional stability.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A spectacle case, holder comprising two lengths of wire twisted together for part of their length and formingthe'hook like or n shape arm at the lower extremity of which the wires are pointed and bent inwardly as at e e, the untwisted portions of the wire being oppositely bowed to form the clamp d, the extremities of the two wires being formed to interlock as shown at a 19, substantially as described.
ROBERT T. ROBERTS.
