FRANK B. HINE, OF EL PASO, TEXAS.
TAG-FASTENER.
Application filed August 15, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK B. HINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tag-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide al device for attaching tags to packagesv wrapped by twine or cord.
The invention embodies, among other features, the provision of a simple device for use in attaching tags to the cord of a package.
CThe invention further embodies a device which is preferably made of a single piece of wire-like material and which can be cheaply manufactured and readily applied to the cord of the package.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a package showing my device applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevation showing the first step in attaching the device to the cord; and Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the device applied to the cord.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a fastener 10 consisting of a single piece of wire-like material 11 bent intermediate its ends to form a loop-like holder 12 adapted to support a tag 13, the ends of the piece of material 11 being bent in the form of hooks 14 relatively spaced apart and having their extremities extending toward the body of the piece of material but slightly spaced therefrom, with the said hooks inclined with respect to the body of the piece of material, as shown in the views.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1916.
Serial No. 7 84,981.
In applying my device to the cord 15 of a package 16, the cord is first received in one of the hooks to pass therethrough and the fastener is then manipulated so that two portions of the cord will pass through the second hook as shown in Fig. 2. The fastener is then manipulated so thatanother portion of the cord will be received within the first hook and will cross the portion of the cord initially passed through the second hook, thus securely attaching the fastener to the package and preventing the same from sliding on the cord.
It will be understood that in applying the fastener to the package any slack in the cord will be taken up on account of twisting the fastener around the cord and thereby my device not only acts as a. tag fastener but also aids in more securely holding the cord to the package.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A tag holder comprising a wire bent to form a loop having converging sides, sections of said wire adjacent its ends being bent outwardly at right angles to the loop body in opposite directions, the ends of the wire being bent inwardly toward each other and overlying in spaced relation the outwardly extending sections to provide cord receiving loops whereby the holder may be connected with a cord to prevent lateral movement of the holder along the cord, and extensions formed from said ends, and contacting with and extending beyond the respective converging sides of the loop interyiorly thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
