Description

v. J. AUGI R. ALBUM I'OR PHOTOGRAPHS, 6m.
No. 271,765. I PatentedfI'eb'. 6, 1883.
Invepntor- Dirk .M
l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VIOLA J. AUGIR, O F SPENCER, IOWA.
ALBUM FOR PHOTOGRAPHS, 80c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 271,765, dated February 6, 1883.
Application filed May 15, 882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, V oLA J. AUGIR, a citizen ot' the-United States of America, residing at Spencer, in the county of Clay and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Albums for Photographs, &c., of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in albums, and particularly relates to that class of albums designed to receive photographs in connection with autographs.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure lis a perspective view of an album embodying the features of my invention, shown open. Fig. 2 is a view showing the manner of clasping the, lids together with an adjustable clasp when. the album is closed. ing some of the various parts in detail.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In Fig. 1 of. the drawings, A, B, and (l represent respectively three pages of an album.
'. The photographs or autograph-cards are to be arranged as shown at A, and are to be held 7 in place on the page by small clips of brass or other suitable material, a 00,1), and c, placed at the corners, as shown. The pieces a a, atthe top,are simply small pieces of brass or other material, cut out, as shown in Fig. 3, with small projections e e, which extend through the leaf of the book and are clinched on the other side. The pieces I) are similar in form,
. but are made double, the upper and lower Fig. 3 is a view showslide freely back and 'forth. In placing either I a photograph or autograph card in place, three of the corners of said card are slipped under the clips at a and b, and the remaining clip,.o,'
slipped over the remaining corner, thus holding the card firmly in its place and presenting a neat and attractive appearance. At B a modification of this mode of securing the cards in place is shown. Instead of the double clip b and sliding clipo at the bottom, a single piece, d, is placed in the center of the bottom and arranged to turn on a rivet, d, after the manner of a button.
I) in Fig. 2 represents an adjustable clasp,
which consists of'a small coil-spring, s,
doubled and attached at each end to one lid, E, with the center looped overa pin, P, in the other lid, E. By this arrangement the lids may be clasped together, no matter how full the album may become.
The blank leaf 0, between the pages A and B, prevents the pictures from becoming scratched by contact with the clips at, b, and c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.
An album composed of the leaves A B and intermediate leaves, (J, said leaves A andB being provided with metallic clips for holding cards, substantially as shown and described.
ln'testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. VIOLA J. AUGIR.
