IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED PORTFOLIO AND WRI TING-TABLET.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 219,451, dated September 9, 1879; application filed July 2, 1879.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN F. DUBBER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Portfolio and Writing-Tablet Combined, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my portfolio-tablet. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view thereof when spread out. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same.

My invention consists in'a portfolio-tablet in which are combined two .leaves joined at one edge and adapted to fold upon each other longitudinally, both provided with an inner pocket, a stiffening-plate secured to one'of such leaves,.and a spring-jaw secured to one ofthe leaves and adapted to clasp and lock the other leaf, so that while ihe article is capable of holding papers, 850., within it, the

same is sufficiently rigid when shut to support a sheet of paper for writing, and at the same The leaves A A are joined at one edge, and the pockets B B are on their inner surfaces. These pockets are adapted to receive paper of various kinds, and may be utilized to hold blank sheets.

The plate 0 is secured to the outer surface or back of the leaf A, and by its means the article is rendered sufficiently rigid when shut to support a sheet of paper to be written on.

The jaw D is secured to the leaf A, and is suitably bent to overlap the leaf A, thereby holding the article shut. Similar letters indicatecorresponding parts.

I usually provide the jaw D with a fingerbutton, 0.

If the sheet of paper to be written on is placed on the leaf A, as shown in Fig. 1, one edge thereof may be inserted under the jaw D,

so that the latter serves to fasten this sheet as well as to close the leaves.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A portfolio-tablet consisting of two leaves joined at one edge and adapted to fold upon each other longitudinally, both provided with an inner pocket, a stiffening-plate secured to one of such leaves, and a spring-jaw secured to one of the leaves and adapted to clasp and lockthe other leaf, all combined and adapted for use substantially as described.
