' ACCOUNT FILE.
(Application filed Apr. 18, 1901.)

'wnsnmsmmp. c. r: Noam PETERS 1:0,, ommas UNITED TATES LEO JULIUS KROHN, OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO.
ACCOU NT- -FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed April 18, 1901.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO JULIUS KROHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Junction, in the county of Mesa and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Account-File, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a file for filing accounts and other papers.
The object of it is, first,to furnish a means of keeping a set of accounts with a minimum amount of labor and mistakes, and also, second, to furnish a means for carrying the accounts around for collection without removing or recopying same by simply carrying file containing accounts in pocket. Accountleaves are readily removed or inserted in file. Iattain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the file complete, except index-leaves, opened fiat and ready for inserting account-leaves and index-leaves; Fig. 2, one of the index-leaves, the holes e andf of which fit on upright pegs q and r in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, top part of lock for holding leaves in file; Fig. 4, bottom part of lock for holding leaves in file 3 Fig. 5, file closed, edge View of side.
a and bin Fig. 1 represent two pieces of covered cardboard of equal size and of a size easily fitting in the coat-pocket, usually about four and one-half by nine inches, and bound together by a piece of cloth-covered elastic a, similar to garter or Congress-shoe welting, about two and one-half inches long and same length as width of covers a and b. The upright points 0 and p are sewed to elastic 0 near edge of cardboard or fastened otherwise by a plate into which they are fastened and which is covered over and which is represented by m in Fig. 3.
q and 1 represent nipples provided with screw-threads inside, into which the points 0 and 10 fit closely and hold securely by friction. Nipples q and r are also joined by a plate which is fastened tojelastic and covered over. The pins q and r j and 7.0 are hollow and contain screw-threads on their insides for holding the upper unthreaded projections or points of the upper part of lock Patent No. 697,092, dated April 8, 1902.

by friction. The binding is of elastic fabric and is stretched on entering or removing leaves. The two parts of the lock are firmly sewed to the elastic, so that the points on upper part will fit into the hollow posts on bottom part. The sharp points or projections 0 and p are to perforate the paper filed, if desired, though ready-punched paper is usually provided for fitting the projections. o and p fit within q and r for their whole length.
Paper for file is same size of index-leaf, Fig. 2, except tab g, which tab extends even with bottom edges of covers of file, (a and b,Fig. 1.)
e and f, Fig. 2, (index-leaf) are holes in index-leaf to fit projections q and r in Fig. 1. Account-pages are perforated all the way across about a half-inch below punched holes, so that when a person pays an account in full the account is torn out and handed to him, thus balancing the account.
Fig. 3 represents a View of the top part of lock detached from file. Fig. 4 represents a View of the bottom part of lock detached from file.
The two parts of look may be fastened to covers, as described under Fig. 1, or they may be inserted from outside of covers (when closed) through holes in elastic to fit same, so that they can be removed separately from covers. I
Projections h and i, Fig. 3, andj and is, Fig. 4, are at right angles to plates m and 'n and fastened to same by screw-threads through plates and on butt-ends of projections.
I am aware that indices similar to ones described have been used, and I do not claim them as my invention; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an account-file, two covers bound together by an elastic fabric, said fabric forming also a back for the file, and a pair of telescoping pins mounted near the opposite edges of said fabric and adjacent to the covers.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEO JULIUS KROHN.
