NITE STATES PATENT EErcE. I
JOHN MOWERY, OF FREMONT, OHIO.
cLoTHEs-PoUNDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,571, dated November 14, 1882.
Application tiled July 11, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MOWERY, of Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Founders; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reti-rence beinghad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this` speci'cation, and in whichg Figure l is a side view of my improved clothes-pounder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view ofthe under side of one ofthe poundcr-cups, and Fig. 4L is a cross-section ot' the eX- pansible handle-bar.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to clothes-polimicrs;'and it consists in the construction ot a duplex pounder, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letters A A indicate the pounder-cups, which may be of any improved construction. I prefer, however, to use cups ofthe construction shown in thedrawings, consisting; ot'a cone-shaped outer cup or casing, a, an inner conical cup, b, and cross-bars o o, spanning the cups at right an gles and connecting their lower rims.
B B are the handles, each one of which has a tubular cross-bar, O C', at its upper end, tirmly tixed thereto by corner-pieces e e. One
(No model.)
, of the parts, O, tits over the opposite tubular part, O', the latter having a series of slots or notches,f, adapted to engage a spring-catch, g, upon the part O. To vkeep the cups in their proper position or relation to each other, I employ an extensible brace, D and D', constructed, like the upper crossbar, O C', in two telescopic sections, each section being firmly secured upon and at right angles to its appropriate upright, B, by corner-pieces 7L. By this construction ofthe cross-bar O O', which serves as a handle in using the machine, the distance between the cups may be regulated or varied to suit different sizes of tubs; or the poundercups may be separated and used singly, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The extensible and adjustable clothes-pounder herein described, consisting of the cups A A', handles B B, the cross-bars D D and C G', the portions O D telescoping in the portions O D, and the portion O having perforations f, and the spring-catch g, all constructed, ar-
ranged, and combined as and for the purposes set forth. V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto aiyxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN MOWERY.
Witnesses:
AUGUST PETERSON, J F. REILY.
