Description

M. J. PEELE. BEDCLOTHES RACK.
' APPLICATION FILED OCT-2. l913- 1,1 86,032. Patented June 6, 1916.

MARY J. PEELE, OF RICH SQUARE, NORTH CAROLINA.
BEDGLOTHES-RAGK.
Application filed October 2, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY J. PEELE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Rich Square, in the county of Northampton, State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes-Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to bed clothes racks, and has for its object to so construct a device of this character that the same may be easily and quickly folded when not in use and placed behind the head-board of the bed or in a closet.
A further object of the invention is to so construct a rack of this character that the same may be easily unfolded for use and placed upon the floor adjacent the bed for receiving the bed clothes so as to prevent the same from contacting with the floor, and to also eliminate the necessity of depositing the bed clothes upon a chair or other article of furniture in the room.
WVith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device ready for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View through the device when in its folded or inoperative position.
The rack comprises a pair of inverted U-shaped frames 1, the bights of which are arranged in cross-wise relation and pivotally connected by a rivet 2. It is to be noted that this rivet is of such length that a space is left between the bight portions of the U-shaped frames 1, for a purpose which will later appear. The legs of the frames terminate in outwardly curved feet A which are provided with casters 5 so that the rack may be readily moved across the floor. The bights of each frame have pivotally connect- Copies of this patent may be obtained for live cents each, by addrening the Comminioner of Patent:-

ed thereto one of the ends of the paired links 6, the other ends of which are connected by rule joints 7 which are adapted to break inwardly when the frames are folded.
In use the rack is operated so that the bights of the frames will be arranged at right angles to each other, and at which time the links 6 will be in alinement, thereby holding the frames against accidental fold- 1ng.
Then it is desired to fold the frames it is only necessary to operate the links so that their rule joints break inwardly, whereupon the frames may be compactly folded.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a rack has been provided so constructed that the same may be conveniently unfolded and arranged adjacent the bed for receiving the clothes therefrom so as to eliminate the necessity of depositing the clothes upon the floor or a chair. Further it will be apparent that the rack may be moved near a window so that the bed clothes thereon can be aired.
What is claimed is g In a collapsible bed clothes rack, an inverted U-shaped frame, a rivet secured to the intermediate portion of the bight of said frame and extending upwardly therefrom, a similar U-shaped frame pivotally mounted on the upper end of said rivet so that the bight thereof will be in vertical spaced relation to the bight of the first mentioned member, a link pivotally mounted on each end of each bight portion and being equal in length to the distance between its pivotal point and the aforementioned rivet, the links 011 the adjacent ends of the bight portions being pivoted together and the combined thicknesses of the said pivoted links being less than the vertical distance between the aforementioned bight portions.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
MARY J. PEELE.
