ATTORNEY United States Patent O 3,318,562 MUSIC STAND Ralph Hersh, 55 Vernon Place, Mount Vernon, N.Y. 10552 Filed June 10, 1965, Ser. No. 462,926 Claims. (Cl. 248-460) The present invention relates to a multiple copy holder stand and more particularly to a multiple music copy holder stand that may be used simultaneously by a plurality of musicians such as an assembled quartet of musicians.
It is a principal object of the present invention to provide a simple, rugged and aesthetically acceptable multiple copy holder stand that may be used simultaneously to hold a plurality of different copies in different positions for simultaneous use for different purposes or by different people such as the musician members of a musical quartet.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide an improved multiple music copy holder stand which is adjustable to support a plurality of diierent copy holder, boards arranged Vgenerally in a circle with the spacing between adjacent musician places adjustable relative to each other to accommodate diierent size instruments such as are employed by a string quartet or the like.
Further objects, features and the attend-ant advantages of the invention will be apparent with reference to the following specification and drawings in which:
FIG. l is a perspective elevational view of the multiple copy holder of the stand in the assembled relation;
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary section through one copy holder board and its adjustable attaching means to secure the board to the supporting framework where a depending leg portion joins a central portion of one support member of the stand',
FIG. 3 is a top plan view of the stand in the assembled relation; and
FIG. 4 is an exploded detail of the fastening means for each copy holder board.
Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 3 of the drawings, the multiple copy holder stand is comprised of at least two support members such as the lmembers generally shown at and 20. Each support members 10, 20 is provided with respective horizontally extending central portions 11, 21 and respective depending leg portions adjacent the ends of each central portion such as shown at 12, 13 and 22, 23, respectively. In the assembled relation of the stand ea-ch central portions 11, 21 is joined to each other at points intermediate their ends, off center and closer to legs 13 and 23 than legs 12 and 22, by the wing nut or bolt 30 to form an upright stand on the depending legs.
Referring now more particularly to FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings, a copy holder board is adjustably secured adjacent the intersection of each leg portions 12, 13, 22, 23 with the respective central portions 11, 21 of lthe stand support members. The copy holder boards are shown at 15, 16, 25 and 26 and are each secured to vertically adjustable rods 17, 18, 27, 28. For example, as shown by FIGS. 2 and 4 of the drawings, each rods 17, 18, 27, 28 such as the rod particularly shown at 18 is received in a suitable socket 31 of the supporting frame member and secured in place by the locking bolt 3,318,562 Patented May 9, 1967 ICC 19. Thus each copy board support rod such as the rod 18 may be raised, lowered or turned to vary the height and angular position of the copy holder board 16 on the stand supporting framework. It will also be seen that each copy holder board such as the board 16 is removably secured to the end of the support rod 18 as shown most clearly by FIG. 4 of the drawings, thus facilitating the complete dismantlement of the stand when required.
It is pointed out thatthe particular adjustable fastening means for each copy board such as the adjustable rod 18 and locking bolt 19 as used with an appropriate socket 31 in the framework is only an example of a typical arrangement and various other adjustable fastening arrangements m-ay be used within the spirit of the invention.
Various modifications will occur to those skilled in the art within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims. For example, although the invention has been described in connection with an arrangement having two support members and four legs, it is not limited thereto since additional support members each having two additional legs and two additional copy holders may be added.
I claim:
1. A multiple copy holder stand comprising at least two support members, each of said support members comprising a central horizontally extending portion and respective downwardly extending leg portions from each respective end of the central portion, means joining the central portions of each support member intermediate their ends to each other to form an upright stand in the assembled relation supported on the downwardly extending leg vportions of each support member, a plurality of copy holder boards, and adjust-able fastening means to secure a respective one of said copy holder boards to the respective portions of each support member -adjacent the ends of the central portions thereof, said joining means comprising a pivotal connection positioned oil center with respect to the ends of said support members permitting a pair of said copy holders adjacent the ends of one of said support members to be moved toward and `away from a pair of copy holders adjacent the ends o1 the other support member and providing more space frorr the copy holders at one end of each support members tc said pivotal connection than from the copy holders a the other ends of each support member to said pivota connection.
2. The invention of claim 1 in which said adjustabli fastening means is adjustable to vary both the height an( angular positions of each copy holder board secure thereby.
3. A multiple music copy holder stand for use by quartet of musicians comprising two support members each of said support members comprising a central hor zontally extending portion and respective downwardl extending leg portions from each respective end of th central portion, means joining the central portions c each support member intermediate their ends to eac other to form an upright stand in the assembled relatio supported on the downwardly extending leg portions each support member, a plurality of copy holder board and adjustable fastening means to secure a respecti\ one 4of said copy holder boards to the respective portioi of each support member adjacent the ends 0f the centr` portions thereof, said joining means comprising a pi" otal connection pos1tioned olf center with respect to tl ends of said support members permitting a pair of said copy holders adjacent the ends of one of said support members to be moved toward and away from a pair of copy holders adjacent the ends of the other support member and providing more space from the copy holders at one end of each support member to said pivotal connection than from the copy holders at the other ends of each support member to said pivotal connection.
v4. The invention of claim 3 in which said adjustable fastening means is adjustable to vary both he height and angular positions of each copy holder board secured thereby.
5. The invention of claim 4 further characterized in th-atrsad copy holder boardsare removably secured to said support members.
