UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT M. STURGIS, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
SPRAYING ATTACHMENT FOR SPONGES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 663,248, dated December 4, 1900.
Application filed April 23, 1900. Serial No. 14,005. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT M. SrUReIs, of Kansas City, Jackson county, State ofMissouri, have invented certain new and usefut Improvements in Spraying Attachments for Sponges, of which the followingis afull, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,`forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to spraying attachments for Sponges; and it consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown, described, and claimed.
Figure l is a view in perspective, showing 1ny improved spraying attachment when in position for use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the device, showing the arrangement ofthe different parts when secured to a sponge. Fig. 3 is a plan view from below of the spraying device.
Referring to the drawings, l denotes a tubular casting, integral with the lower extremity of which is a spraying-cylinder 2, the said spraying-cylinder being provided with a number of apertures 3 through its bottom and a plurality of apertures 4 through the sides thereof. Integral with the upper edge of the said cylind er is an upwardly-projecting annular flange 5, and formed around the enlarged lower portion of the tube 1 are screw-threads 6.
7 indicates a clamp or washer of any preferred construction, integral with the lower side of which is a downwardly-projecting flange 8, the purpose of the said ange being to close overa portion of the sponge or other device which may be used and, in combination with the ange 5, hold said device rigidly in position. For the purpose of securing the clamp or washer 7 in the desired adjustment I provide a nut 9, the same being threaded upon the tubel above the said washer, by which means the washer may be compressed and made to firmly hold the sponge in position thereon. The upper extremity of the tube l is adapted to receive the end of a hose or any other suitable means for conveying water, and when in use the Water after passing through the means for conveyance passes down the tube l into the spraying-cylinder 2, whence it passes outwardly through the apertures 3 et, thereby maintaining a proper degree of moisture in the sponge at all times.
A device constructed in accordance with the above principles possesses superior advan` tages and is especially adapted for use in sponging articles of all kinds-such, for example, as vehicles and windows .or any other article for which said device may be used.
I claim- 1. A device of the class described, comprising a tubular casting, a spraying-cylinder carried by said casting, a clamp carried by said tubular casting, Hanges integral With said spraying-cylinder and with said clamp, and means whereby said anges may be made to grip over a portion of the sponge, to which the attachment may be secured, substantially as specied.
2. The herein-described device, comprising a tubular casting, a spraying-cylinder carried by said tubular casting, a clamp mounted over said tubular casting, anges integral With said cylinder and with said clamp for engaging over the sponge, and a nut for hold- Ving said clam-p in any desired adjustment,
the spraying-cylinder being inclosed by the sponge when the device is in use, substantially as specied.
Intestimony whereof I affix. my signature in presence of two witnesses.
A HERBERT M; s'rURGIs.
Witnesses:
