Description

.L. s.PLAT-AU;
PISTOL AND GARBINB HOLDER. I
No. 252448. Patented Jan. 17,1882.
ATTORNEYS.
' UNITED STATES PATENT, Orricn.
LOUIS S. FLATAU, OF PITTSBURG, TEXAS.
PISTOL AND CARB lNE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,448, dated January 17, 1882.
Application tiled November 16, 1881. (Model.) 7
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, LoUIs S. FLATAU, of Pittsburg, in the county of Camp and the State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Pistol and Carbine Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and-exact description.
The object "of my invention is to provide cheap and efficient means for carrying fireaims either upon the person or on horseback, the same being so constructed that the arm may be quicklyand easily drawn .for use and easily returned to place in the holder.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is aplau view, partlyin section, of my invention as it appears when attached toa belt to be worn upon the person, a pistol being shown in place; and Fig. 2 is-a perspective view of the holder, a portion of the belt, and the button, the arm being removed to more clearly show the construction. I
A represents the belt; B, the steel plate, which is riveted to the belt; 0, the bifurcated metal spring, which is riveted to the said plate; and Drepre'sents thearm. The arm is provided with the button a, hich, in this instance, forms a part of the pin upon which, the hammer of the arm is pivoted, and which is adapted to pass betwetn and under the parts or prongs c c ofthe spring, as clearly shown in U the drawings.
- cam action upon each other, so that a s ight pull upon the arm will cause the spring to be forced upward and permit the arm to be quickly and easily drawn. 5
The ends of the parts 0 c ofthespring are slightly upturned to facilitate the inscrtiouot' the button under and between them'in the act of replacing the arm in the holder; and to still further facilitate the passage of the button under the parts of the spring the plate B is cut away to a point under theinnercorne s of the parts of the spring, as shown atfin Fig. 2.
In cases where the arm is to be carried is a pistol or revolver of ordinary construction the button should beformed on the hammer-pivot, as then the additional expense will be very slight. In case the arm is a breech loading carbine, or other similar arm, the button-may form a part of the pin upon which the breech- 6o block is pivoted but I do not wish to be understood as confining myself to any particular attachment of the button, as it can be attached in various ways and still involve the principle of my invention, and I do not wish to be understood as confining m \$elt' to any special means of attachment of the holder to the person or saddle, as this also may be accomplished in various ways.
Having thus described my invention, I claim asnew and desireto secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the belt A, the plate B, secured thereto, the springO, having prorigs c 0, made fast to plate B and adapted to hold the arm D, with its button a,as shown and described.
2. The combination of the prongs c 0, up-
turned at the ends, and the plate lB,.cut away
