UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
FREDERICK A. WILL AND JULIUS FINGK, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR SlDE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,921, dated April 23, 1872.
SPECIFICATION. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDERICK A. WILL and J ULIUS FINOK, of the city of San Francisco, county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved Clasp for Side-Arms; and we do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use the said invention without further invention or experiment.
Our invention relates toimprovements in the clasps which are employed for attaching or suspending the scabbards or holsters of side-arms from the-belt or waistband of the person carryin g them 5 and the object is to provide a simple and cheap device by which the attachment can be quickly made, and, when made, will not be liable to become unfastened and the arm lost.
In order to illustrate more fully and to explain my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming apart of this specification, in which- A represents a knife scabbard or other sheath or holster for side-arms. In order to secure this scabbard or case to the belt or waistband of the wearer a small plate, I), is secured to it near the upper end. Attached to this plate by ahinge or joint, 0, is the claspbar 61, which extends down a short distance toward the lower end of the sheath, and is provided with a hook or catch, 6, at its lower end, on the under side. A fiat spring, f, is
bar.
fastened to the under side of the clasp-bar, and bent so as to bear against the sheath beneath it and thus keep the extremity of the clasp raised. In some instances this spring may be dispensed with. A small screwpasses through the upper end of the clasp-bar on the opposite side of the joint and bears against the plate I), so that by turning the screw to the right the short end of the clasp-bar will be elevated and the hooked end will be depressed upon the sheath, and as a consequence the opposite turning raises the hooked end.
In order to fasten the sheath to the person it will only be necessary to insert the waistband or belt under the clasp-bar and turn the screw so as to depress the hooked end of the This binds the waistband between the bar and the sheath so as to secure the sheath firmly to it, where it will remain until the free end of the bar is raised by the screw.
Having thus described our invention, what we desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A clasp for the sheaths of side-arms, consisting of the vibrating hooked clasp-bar d, or its equivalent, spring f, and screw g, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described herein.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals.
