Description
(No Mdeii) G. o. B. WHYTB. SAPBTYHQLDER FOR PIRE ARMS.
No. 393,677. Patented Nov. 27, 1888.
y f@ m/'Mm' l CHARLES CECIL BERESFORD VIIYTE, OF HATLEY MANOR, CARRICK-ON- SHANNON, COUNTY OF LEITRIM, IRELAND.
FOR FIRE-ARMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,677, dated November 27, 1888.
Application filed September 11, iSSS. Serial No 285,135.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Gnou, Beans- FoRD WHYTE, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Hatley Manor, Carrickon-Shannon, in the county of Leitrim, Ireland, have invented a new and useful Safety- Holder for Fire-Arms, (for whicliI have made application for a patent in Great Britain, which patent when granted will bear date July 23, 1888, No. 10,G5l,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a holder for a tirearm--such as a revolver, carbine, or thelikeso constructed that it retains the weapon firmly, preventing its accidental discharge while so held, and that it permits the arm to be detached by a single movement of the hand, which in effecting that action holds the weapon ready for use.
I will describe a holder according to my invention for a revolver or pistol, referring to the accompanying drawings.
AFigure l is a front view showing the holder retaining a revolver, and Fig. 2 is a section.
The holder A is a bent steel spring, which v may hang from a belt, B, as shown, or may be attached to the dress of a wearer near his left side, so as to present the stockol' the weapon conveniently to his right hand.
Io the front limb ot' the holder A is fixed a boss, C, projecting inwardly toward the back liihb, but terminating with a rounded end at a little distance from the back limb. This boss may be of hard wood or such like material, secured to the front limb bya rivet, or it may be, as shown, a metal thimble made hollow for the sake of lightness, secured by riveting or brazing tothe front limb. The wearer, taking hold of the weapon by its stock, inclines it in such a. way that he can insert the trigger- (No model.) Patented in England Jnly, 1888, No.10,65l.
guard D edgewise between the boss C and the back limb of the holder. IVhen the triggerguard has passed the boss, the weapon being let go hangs in vthe position shown in Fig. 1, the trigger guard resting on the boss C. As this boss occupies nearly all the space behind the trigger between it and the hinder limb of the trigger-guard, the trigger can not be pulled -baek while the weapon is retained inthe holder, and consequently there can be no accidental discharge while the weapon is so held. \Vhen it is required for use, the wearer has only to take hold of the stock of the weapon and by a smart partial turn and down- Ward strain he causes the trigger-guard to pass the boss C edgewise, thus releasing the weapon .which he has in his hand ready for use.
vObviously a holder such as I have described, instead of being attached to a belt or garment worn on the person, might be attached to a saddle.
Having thus described the nature of my invention and the best means I k now for carrying the same into practical effect, I claim- A safety-holder for a tire-arm, consisting ol' a U-shaped spring, A, having a boss, C, attached to one limb projecting in toward the other limb and adapted to engage the triggerguard ol' a tire arm, said boss terminating in a spherical end, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whercoil havesigncd my name to this specilcatiomin the presence ol' two subscribing witnesses, this 23d day of August, A. D. 1888.
CHARLES CECI'L BERESFORD WHITE.
Witnesses:
