FRED IB. GUYET'IE, OF ENFIELD, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
GUN-REST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 22, 1914.
Application filed May 12, 1914. Serial No. 838,137.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED B. GUYETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Enfield, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gun rests, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a gun rest to be pivotally connected to the stock of the gun and normally held in longitudinal alinement at the side of the gun stock in position to be readily dropped to be supported upon the waist belt of the gunner so that the gun may be aimed at any object at any desired inclination and held steadily during the firing operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a gun rest which will be out of the way when not required for use and which can be instantly released from a clasp at the side of the gun stock and dropped into position to be supported upon the waist belt of the gunner, said rest being pivoted at the side of gun stock to permit the barrel of the gun to move at any inclination from the shoulder of the gunner.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a gun having a gun rest connected thereto and made in accordance with this invention, said gun rest being shown in full lines in its position when not required for use and in dotted lines in position to engage the waist belt of the wearer for supporting the gun at any required inclination, Fig. 2 is. a detail view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 83 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a gun stock and pivoted at 2 in an eye formed on the gun rest 3 is the rod provided at the opposite end with a hook to engage the waist belt. A screw 4 provided with a milled head 5 extends through the eye 2 and into the gun stock 1 as shown Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Iatenta,
more clearly in Fig. 2 and forms a pivotal point for the gun rest 3.
For holding the gun rest up against the side of the stock of the gun when not required for use, a spring trip 8 provided with a spring tongue 9 is connected to the side of the stock by a suitable fastening extending through an eye in the trip 8 and into the gun stock. A hook 7 at the end of the gun rest 3 is designed to engage the belt of the wearer.
When it is desired to use the gun rest, the rod is pushed down from the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to the dotted line position shown, in Fig. l and the hook 7 is engaged with the waist belt of the wearer and the gun is then aimed and is supported during the firing operation.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a gun rest made in accordance with this invention, is simple in construction, is entirely out of the way when not required for use, can be instantly thrown down when ready for use as a gun rest, can be manufactured at low cost and is eflicient for its purpose.
Various changes may be made in the de tails of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
W hat is claimed is The herein described gun rest comprising a rod pivoted at one end to the stock of a gun near the trigger, the opposite end being provided with a hook adapted to engage the waist belt of the wearer or user of the gun, and a spring trip connected to the side of the stock and having a spring tongue extending upwardly so that the rest may be pushed downward to disconnect it from the trip and to permit the gun rest to drop down in position for engaging the belt of the gunner.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FRED B. GUYETTE.
Witnesses:
