UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW RANDALL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DRINKING-VESSEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,780, dated October 4, 1881.
Application filed May 10, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW RANDALL, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mouth-Pieces for Drinking-Vessels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description oftheinventiomwhich will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a. part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspeciive view, howing my invention in position for operation. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional View, and Fig. 3 is a view of the invention detached.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to a mouth-piece, ad-
20 justable upon beer-glasses and other drinkingvessels, 'and having for its object to exclude froth or foam, and also to provide a tube through which the liquid may beconvenientlyimbibed.
The invention consists of a plate adjustable upon the edge of adrinking-vessel and formed or provided with a holding-lip, a strainer, and a mouthpiece, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represexits a flat plate having a rounded or segmental edge, B, conforming to the curvature of the rim of an ordinary beer-glass, and having a downward-projecting flange, O, and a centrally-located lip, D. Theinner side of the plate A is provided, directly opposite said lip, with a concavo-convex strainer, E, which may be either formed in one piece with the said plate or be separately attached.
From the plate A, at a pointbetween thelip D and strainer E, a suitable curved tube or mouth-piece, F, extends in an upward direction, as shown.
In practice the lip D and strainer E serve to clamp the device upon the rim of a drinkingvessel in the position shown'in Fig. 1 of the drawings. When the vessel is tilted in the act of imbibing its contents the strainer E serves to exclude froth and foam, lumps of ice, lemon-seeds, and the like, while the liquid passes freely through the tube or mouth-piece F.
This deviceis simple, convenient, inexpensive, and capable of being easily adjusted upon any ordinary drinking-vessels.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States I. The combination, with a drinking-vessel, of a detachable combined strainer and mouthpiece, as described, for the purpose set forth.
2. Amouth-piece fordrinking-vessels,adapted to be secured in position by means of a clamping-lip, D, and a strainer, E. located opposite the latter, as herein described.
3. The herein described mouth piece for drinking-ves els, consistingot'theplateA,having flange O, lip D, strainer E, and tube F, as herein described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my siguaturein presence of two witnesses.
ANDRENV RANDALL.
