UNITED STATESTENT Orrloa.
JOSEPH' ERNST, OF CENTRAL CITY, COLORADO TERRITORY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT'TO JOSEPH KEMPF, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 70,073, dated November 16, 1875 application filed September 14,1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH ERNST, of Gentral City, in the county of Gilpin and Territory of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification. 1 o
. Figure 1 is a side view of a bottle with the cap attached. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section after the line indicated by a: m inFig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the neck of the bottle and cap, detached; and Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the cap.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention consists in th e combination of a compartment bottle with a rex'olving screw-cap of peculiar construction, so that the tube in said cap may readily be placed over either of the compartments.
The bottle A has two or more compartments, denoted by a, b c 61, formed by the interior dividing-walls B G. The neck of the bottle is provided with ascrew-thread, 1),.as shown.
The cap consists of the sleeve E, which has an inside screw-thread corresponding to D, and the revolving top piece F, which is secured upon the sleeve E by the annular flange f, as shown in Fig. 4. The rim of the top piece F is ribbed or serrated, so the fingers may readily seize it when it is desired to turn it. G is a washer made of rubber or other suitable material and secured onto the under side of the top piece F by rivets g. This washer is perforated at h, care being taken when the washer is riveted to the top piece that the said perforation comes directly under the tube H, which is affixed to and rotates with the top piece F.
From the foregoing description the manner of operating the cap will be readily understood.
The various compartments in the bottle having been filled with the various kinds of liquor they are desired to contain, the screw-cap is adjusted by turning the rotating top piece F, so that the tube H is placed over the compartment from which it is desired to pour the liquor. A band or label may be placed around the neck of the bottle below the screw'cap, having upon it the names of the liquors or fluids contained in the bottle, and so arranged that each name shall come just opposite to the compartment to which it refers. By this arrangement the tube may be readily placed in its proper position, even if the bottle is made of opaque glass.
It is obvious that this invention may be applied to a variety of purposes, such as barkeepers bottles, barbers bottles, medicinebottles, or casters for table use, the compartments being varied in number and configuration to suit the various circumstances of the case, and the shape and dimensions of the tube H being also modified according to circumstances. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- The combination of a bottle or other vessel having two or more compartments formed by vertical walls or divisions B G with a screwcap having a rotating top piece, F, and tube E, that may be adjusted over either compartment, substantially for the purpose and in the manner hereinbefore described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature Q in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH ERNST.
