YIMPROVEMENT IN TABLE SALT BOTTLES.
Specification formiiig'part of Letters Patent No. 198,554, dated December 25, 1577; application filed December 11, 1877.
To all'whom it may concern:
. ful Improvement in Table Salt 'Bottles; and
do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 a vertical section, of a salt-bottle provided with my invention; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the It is well known that table-salt is liable to deliquesce and become'hard or cake when in an open bottle or other vessel.
My invention is for the purpose of stirring or breakingupi the salt, in order toprevent it from .caking in thebody as well as intheperforated cover of thebottle. also to break up the salt when caked, either Such invention is in thebody orthe cover of such bottle.
To this end I use in the bottle a rotary agitator, having a shank extending through the cover, and provided with a knob, such agitator being movable lengthwise, besides being capable of being revolved in the cover by the thumb and forefingerof the hand of a person applied to the knob.- '1?his agitator has two sets of curved prongs, one of which projects downward toward the bottom of the bottle, and the other upward toward the cover, all being substantially as represented in the drawings, in which- A denotes the salt holder or bottle, provided with a perforated cap, B, screwed upon its neck a. The agitator Gr is composed of a cylindrical wire or shank, b, a knob, c, and two series of curved prongs, d c, all arranged in and with the cover, in manner as shown.
By drawing the agitator upward and revolving it, salt that may gather in the cover or stop its holes of discharge may be broken up. So, by depressing the agitator and revolving it within the bottle, salt that may cake in the bottom of such bottle may be broken up. By alternately moving the agitator up and down in the bottte, and at the same time revolving such agitator, the body of the .salt may be stirred.
I claim The agitator, substantially as described, movable in manner and by means as set forth, in combination and arranged with the bottle and its perforated cap or cover, as specified.
