MEASURING CAN-FILLER.
SPECIFICATION forming-part of Letters Patent No. 664,075, dated December 18, 1900. Application filed. October 16, 1900. Serial No. 33,269. (llo model.]
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SUSAN A. BERRY, of Hampton, in the county of Elizabeth City and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Measuring Can- Fillers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an appliance adapted for use in measuring milk and other liquids and in depositing the same in cans.
The invention consists in the improved appliance which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a measuring can-filler embodying myinvention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of the same in place on a can to be filled.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in both the figures.
In the drawings, 1) represents a measuring vessel or receptacle which is suitably graduated, preferably by means of peripheral ribs or beads formed on the body of the receptacle. The bottom of the receptacle has a discharge-tube c of relatively small diameter pro jecting downwardly a considerable distance,
6 represents a horizontal platform, which surrounds the discharge-tube c and is located between the bottom of the measuring-receptacle b and the lower end of the outlet-tube c,the said tube projecting below the platform. The platform is of much larger diameter than the tube, and is adapted to rest on the mouth of a can a, into which the tube cprojects, as shown in the drawings, the size of the platform being such that it can rest upon the mouth of a can a of any size within reasonable limits.
ff are braces extending betweenthe measuring-receptacle b and the outer portion of the platform e to strengthen and stiffen the construction.
01 represents a stopper, which is adapted to close the upper end of the outlet-tube c and is provided with a rod or handle d, extending upwardly through the vessel 1).
- It will be seen that the horizontal platform 6, surrounding the outlet-tubec and made of considerably greater diameter. than the lat ter, so that it can bear equally well upon relatively large as well as relatively small cans, enables the measuring-receptacle to be conveniently used with any of the cans used by milk-dealers without regard to the size of the can.
It is to be noted that there is nothing but the outlet-tube c projecting below the plat= form e, there being no legs or other projections below said platform.
The construction is such that the appliance can be readily cleaned, all parts being freely accessible, which is a feature of much importance in a dairy appliance.
The stopper 01 may be made of hard rubber or of any other suitable material and is preferably detachable from the rod (1, so that it can be renewed when worn out without discarding the rod.
I clain1 A measuring can-filler comprising a graduated receptacle having a discharge-tube extending downwardly from its bottom, a horizontal platform surrounding the dischargetube between its upper and lower ends and adapted to rest on the mouth of a can to be filled, braces extending from the lower portion of the receptacle to the outer margin of the shelf or platform, and a stopper adapted to close the outlet and having a handle extending upwardly in the receptacle to the up per portion thereof.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SUSAN A. BERRY.
