WILLIAM W. CLIMENSON, OF ST. CLAIR, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN SPITTOONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218,232, dated August 5, 1879; application filed May 21, 1879.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. CLIMEN- SON, of St. Clair, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spittoons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in spittoons.
The object in view is to form a spittoon which, when overturned, will not discharge its contents upon the floor, and also to provide a means for readily emptying the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spittoon. Fig. 2 is a section taken on a vertical plane through the center of the same, and on the line or m, Fig. 3. The said Fig. 3 is aplan view of the under side of the same.
Let A represent the base; B, the lower section of the body, and G the upper part, which has the conical part E fitted thereto. This part or receiver E is intended to receive whatever may be thrown into the spittoon, and then discharge the same through opening 9, as usual. It has a flange, h, so that when the spittoon is overturned, the contents which will flow into the space i will be the more effectually retained therein.
K is a screw-cap, which can be removed when it is desired to unscrew the same and cleanse the spittoon. This can is screwed over a short tubular part, l, as shown in Fig. 2, and this tube or cylinder constitutes thelower receptacle for fluids or cigars which may be thrown into the spittoon.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim is- 1. A spittoon comprisin gthe base A, sections B and C, and the conical or funnel-shaped part E, as shown and described.
2. In combination with a spittoon, the screwcap K, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WM. W. OLIMENSON.
