'UNITED STATES ATENT IMPROVEMENT IN SPRINKLING-CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,321, dated February 18, 1879 application filed September 16, 1878.
To all whom 'itmay concern Be it known that I, GEORGE F. PAYNE, of Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sprinkling-Oans 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to certain improvements in sprinkling-cans; and the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled. in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and arrangement, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which forni a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation with the perforated end of the can turned down. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section. Fig. 3 is a view showing the end of the can provided with an opening for filling, and Fig. 4 denotes transverse sections taken through the bail-ears and ways on opposite sides of the can. i
In the drawings, A denotes the body of' the sprinkler, which may be constructed in any suitable manner, the end B being made convex, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of drawings, or flat, as desired.
The end O is made convex, and provided with a series of perforations, as shown in Figs.
l and 2 of drawings. The end C of the can is constructed with an opening, D,which is provided with a screw-cap, E, or other suitable closing device.
The body A is provided on opposite sides with longitudinal ways F, in which are arranged adjustable or sliding ears G, to which the bail H is, by bolts I, secured, as plainly shown in Figs. 2 and 4 of drawings.
This invention is designed to be used for sprinkling insect-destroying compounds on plants, and for analogous purposes.
Vhen it is desired to fill the can the bail is adjusted in the ways F, from the position shown in Figs. l and 2 of drawings to the other end of the can, thereby reversing the position of the open end G. The can may be carried in this position to prevent its contents running out.
/Vhen ready for sprinkling, the perforated end is turned or thrown down by adjusting the bail back to its former position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A sprinkling or other containing vessel, having a bail held and adjusted from one end ot' the vessel to the other, as set forth.
2. A sprinkling-can having the perforated end O, formed with an opening, D, and a bail, H, held and adjusted from one end ofthe can to the other, as set forth.
3. The sprinklingvessel A, provided with ways F, sliding ears G, and bail H, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEO. F. PAYNE.
