Description
R. LAPHAM.
STOP-COCKS FOR ELASTIC AND FLEXIBLE TUBING.
No. 19Z,58%.- Patented July 3,1877.
N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D. C.
RUFUS LAPHAM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T0 WILLIAM PLATT, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOP-COCKS FOR ELASTIC AND FLEXIBLE TUBING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No."l92,584, dated July 3, 1877 application filed March 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RUFUs LAPHAM, of New York, New York State, have invented Stop- Oocks for Elastic and Flexible Tubing, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in making a stop-cock for elastic and flexible tubing, substantially as appears in the following specification and the annexed drawings, with letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a view of the stop-cock as seen entire upon the tube cl.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view.
Fig. 3 represents the outer case of the stopcock before being bent up, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4is an apron, a, hung in the case Aby the lugs a a, acting in the holes I) b at one end of the case A, while the other end rests loosely upon the tube (1.
Fig. 5 represents a lever or handle, having lugs a a acting in the holes in the opposite end of the case A, and bent down nearly at a right angle close by said lugs a a, to form a cam to act upon the apron 0.
Now, it will be seen that when the lever or handle is turned up, the tube by its elasticity will rise and allow a passage through it but, when turned down, the passage will be closed, the cam acting upon the apron and the apron upon the tube.
In this wayImake avery cheap and an effective stop-cock for elastic tubing. I am aware of other devices for the purpose, but know of no one so cheap and effective.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i The combination of the case A, the apron c, and cam-lever B, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
RUFUS LAPHAM.
