IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED MEASURE AND FUNNEL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215,982, dated May 27, 1879; application filed February 20, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SHAW, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented an Improved Combined Measure and Funnel, of which the following is a specification; and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of 111 said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relatesto a combined graduated measure and funnel having a valve situated between them, adapted to be opened and retained in an open position by means of a wire, or equivalent device, extending to the ex terior of the measure, as will hereinafter fully appear.
In the drawings forming a part hereof, Fig. 1 is a partly-sectional view of the invention, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in both views.
A represents the measure, which is of taperin g form, soldered or otherwise secured to the upper end of the funnel B. The bottom of the measure is perforated, and provided with a valve, 0, hinged thereto. The valve is fitted with a spring, D, for obvious purposes, and
with a wire, E, for opening it, which wire has a hook, a, to be used when the valve is to be retained in an open position. The said hook is intended to fit over the top edge of the funnel when the valve is to be kept open.
I do not claim, broadly, the combination of measure and funnel, nor such a device provided with a valve and means to maintain the same in an open position, except when constructed in accordance with the invention herein shown; but,
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The measure A, having the funnel end B, and a valve-seat placed at the point of connection between the measure and funnel, combined with the hinged valve 0, spring D, and wire E, provided with the hook a, adapted to rest upon the top edge of the measure when the valve is drawn open, substantially as specified.
