FUNNEL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN J. LACY and SAMUEL DIAMOND, citizens of the United States, and residents of Perth Amboy, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Funnel, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
An object of our invention is to provide a valve for commanding the passage through the tube, with means on the cup secured to the tube, for readily operating the valve.
Still other objects of the invention will appear in the following complete descrip tion, in which the preferred form of our invention is disclosed.

By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a cup member 5 is provided, to which is secured the tapering tube 6. This tube 6 has a lateral opening 7, near its bot-- tom, a relatively small tube 8 being inserted in the tube 6, this tube 8 being connected with the side of the tube 6, around the said opening 7. The tube 8 extends upwardly through the tube 6, and through the cup 5 to a point 9 near the top of the cup 5. It will be seen that this tube 8 is provided to permit the air to pass out of the bottle 10, when a fluid is poured into the bottle, through the tube 6. It will also be seen that any froth passing out of the bottle 10 with the air will be deposited in the cup 5 so that it will not be wasted. Resting on the cup 5 is the seat member 11, this member 11 having a central opening 12, and flanges 13 which extend downwardly into the tube 6. One side of the member 11 has an upwardly extending portion 14, having an opening 15. tion of the resilient arm led through this opening 17.
As will be seen by referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings, the resilient arm 16 has a depending fiange 18, with an opening 19 through which the hook 20 on the rod 21 is disposed. This rod 21 extends downwardly through the tube 6, and has a threaded portion 22, which meshes in athreaded opening 23 in the valve 24. The valve 24 has a recess 25 in which a screw driver may be disposed, by which means the valve 24 may be readily screwed or unscrewed relatively to the rod 21. This valve 24 is disposed atthe bottom of the tube 6, and is adapted to be raised to engage the valve seat 26, formed at the bottom of the said tube 6. Disposed in the opening 15 in the upwardly extending member 14 of the bearing member 11, there is a lever 27 this lever 27 having a shoulder 28, which is disposed against the resilient arm 16. The lever then extends upwardly, above the top ofthe cup 5.
It will be seen that by pressing downwardly on the upwardly extending port-ion 29 of the lever 27, the shoulder 28 will press the resilient arm 16 downwardly, which will move downwardly the rod 21, and with it the valve 24, thereby opening communication through the tube 6. A pivoted wing member 30 is mounted at the side of the guard member 31, through which the portion 29 of the lever 27 is disposed, this wing member 30 being adapted to move over the said portion 29 of the lever 27 to hold it downwardly with the valve 24 spaced from the seat 26 in the tube 6, to permit of fluid passing from the cup 5 into the bottle 10.
It will be seen that as the valve 24 is disposed at the bottom of the tube 6, none of the liquid which is being poured into the bottle 10 will be wasted when the bottle is being filled. This is so because when the bottle has been filled the fluid remaining in the cup 5 or in the tube 6, of the funnel, is prevented from passing out of the bottom of the tube 6, when the funnel is removed from the neck of the bottle 10. As the tube 6 has a smooth outer surface round in cross section, it will fit snugly the neck of the bottle 10, and prevent the leakage of any fluid between the tube 6 and the said bottle neck.
A strainer 32 is disposed over the bearing member 11, the strainer resting on the cup 16. The tube 8 is 5, and having an opening 33, through which the lever 27 extends. This strainer 32 is preferably solderedto the cup 5.
Having thus described our invention we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A funnel member having an opening, a valve for commanding the opening, a bearing member mounted on the funnel member and having an opening registering with the opening in the funnel member, and a resilient arm, and means connecting the resilient arm with the valve,
2. A funnel member having an opening, a valve for commanding the opening, abearing member mounted on the funnel memberi and having an opening registering with the; opening in the funnel member, and a re-; silient arm, means connecting the resilient; arm with the valve, and a lever mounted on, the bearing member for engaging the re-' silient arm for operating the latter.
3. A funnel member having an opening, a valve disposed against one end of the opening, a bearing member mounted on the funnel member and having an opening reg-; istering with the opening in the funnel member, and a resilient arm, and a rod con necting the resilient arm with the valve, for operating the latter.
4:. A funnel member having a tube and a cup portion, a valve disposed at the bottomj of the tube for commanding the passage through the tube, a bearing member mounted in the cup portion and having an opening registering with the opening in the tulile, and a resilient arm, a member connecti g the arm with the valve, and a lever f'lcrumed at one end on the bearing memb r, a lever having a shoulder resting on the arm, and a terminal extending upwardly therefrom.
5. A funnel member having a tube and a cup portion, a valve disposed at the bottom of the tube for commanding the passage through the tube, a bearing member mounted in the cup portion and having an opening registering with the opening in the tube, and a resilient arm, a member connecting the arm with the valve, a lever fulcrumed at one end on the bearing member, a lever having a shoulder resting on the arm, and a terminal extending upwardly therefrom, and a wing pivoted to the cup portion adapted to engage the lever for holding it in predetermined position.
