CLARA BORGENSCHILD, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN.
N U RSlNG-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part'of Letters Patent No. 593,830, dated November 16, 1897.
' Application filed J'uly1'7, 1897. Serial No. 644,911. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA BORGENSCHILD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Racine, .in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in nursing-bottles.
The object of my invention is to provide a form of bottle in which rubber tubes are dispensed with and which may be easily kept clean and free from all impurities.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which-'- Figure 1 is an elevation of my'invention.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is atop View of the bottle-cap, with the stem removed, on line so a; of Fig. 1. r
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters throughout the several views.
A is the-bottle, preferablyprovided with a measuring-gage, as shown in Fig. 1, and hav-. ing a screw-threaded neck B, over which a metallic cap 0 is adapted to fit. The cap 0 is provided with an upwardly-projecting interiorly-screw-threaded thimble D,into which the upper sectionof the suction pipe or stem is adapted fit. The latter is formed of a glass tube E, covered by a pewter or other metal covering F to protect it from breaking, and having'a flange Grat its lower end adapted .to bear upon the upper end of the thimble D. At its upper end, which is preferably bent,
the stem is provided with annular ribs or projections H, adapted to retain the rubber nipple I, which is slipped over the end of the stem and additionally secured by means of abone'ring J. The metal covering of the stem is also provided with oppositely disposed slots K, thus exposing the glass tube and its contents to View.
The lower section L of the suction-pipe is formed of glass and adapted to be inserted through an opening in the cap 0, which is inclosed by said thimble D, with an annular flange M, adapted to engage the sides of the opening, and a tapering upper end adapted to enter the lower end of the upper section. Packing-rings N and O are preferably used above and below the flange M, and are of such thickness that the end of the upper section will bear tightly upon the packing when the flange G is in contact with the thimble D.
The cap 0 is provided with an eye P to facilitate the attachment of a holding ribbon or cord and small openings Q to admit air to the interior of the bottle. WVhen it is desired to close the openings, a metallic washer R is interposed underneath the cap.
It will be observed that with the above-deseparated and kept absolutely clean, there being no rubber parts in contact with the milk except the nipple.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.
The combination with a bottle, of a cap adapted to fit thereon and having an opening therethrough surrounded by an upwardlyprojecting interiorly-screw-threaded thimble, and air-admitting openings exterior to the thimble, together with an eye for the attachment of a holding ribbon or cord, a washer adapted to cover said air-admission openings, a glass tube adapted to fit through said thinlble-opening and provided with an annular flange at its upper end adapted to engage the sides thereof, an upper glass tube covered with metal and adapted to screw into said thimble with its lower end in connection with said first-mentioned tube, and a rubber nipple adapted to fit over the free end of the upper tube, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CLARA BORGENSOHILD.
