FFIQCEG FREDERICK E. BROWN, OF MGHENRY, NORTH DAKOTA.
CAR-SEAL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK E. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mc'I-Ienry, in the county of Foster and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Seals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to seals, and more particularly to that class known as car seals.
An object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character, ren dering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use, and readily operated.
WVith the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which one portion of the seal is formed, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank from which the other portion of the seal is formed.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved seal, which consists of a band or strip 2, provided in one end with an aperture 3, and upon its opposite end with a substantially rectangularshaped head t, the opposite sides and outer end of which have located therein slots 5. A housingG is secured to the head 4:, and has .located upon its inner face an inwardly projecting spring catch 7, adapted to engage the aperture 3 when that end of the strip is inserted within the housing at its rear end. The housing 6 is formed preferably of a substantially rec- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 692,414.
tangular-shaped blank, upon one end and the opposite sides of which are formed extensions 8. The side extensions 8 are provided with reduced extremities 9, which are adapted to be inserted through the side openings 5 formed in the head 4, with the shoulders 10 formed by this reduced extension contacting with the face of the head 4L. The reduced extensions, together with the extension formed upon the end of the blank, may be bent over, for the purpose of preventing the displacement of the housing from the before-mentioned head. The construction of the side extensions of the blank serve to hold the top of the housing in spaced relation to the rectangular head 4.
From the foregoing disclosure it will be obvious that a car seal is provided which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A car seal comprising a metallic strap provided with an aperture in one end thereof, the other end having a substantially rectangular shaped head thereon, said head provided with elongated slots on the sides and one end thereof, a housing of substantially rectangular shape secured to the head, said housing consisting of turned-down sides, tongues formed on the sides and one end adapted to be received by said elongated slots, and an inwardly projecting resilient catch located in said housing and adapted to be received by the aperture in said strap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
