IMPROVEMENT IN OILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,049, dated March 6, '1877; application filed November 4, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HENRY HAR- RISON, of Livermore, Alameda county, California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oilers, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a side view of an oiler to which my improvement has been applied, partly in section, to show the construction.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved oiler, which shall be so constructed as to catch and holdany oil that may run down the stem, while at the same time keeping the outside of the can free from oil, and keeping the caught oil free from dust.
The invention consists inthe combination of the cup, provided with an inwardly and downwardly projecting ring-flange with the top of the can and with the stem, and in the combination of the perforated cup and the cap with the stem and with the flanged cup formed upon the top of the can, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the can or body of the oiler, which is made with a spring-bottom in the usual way. Upon' the top of the oiler A, around the hole into which the stem 0 is screwed is formed a cup, B, to serve as a funnel when filling the oiler, and to receive any oil that may flow down the stem 0 from its top. The upper edge of the cup B has an inwardly and downwardly projecting ringfiange, b, formed upon it, as shown in the drawing, to prevent any oil that may be in the cup B from spilling out when the oiler is being used. To the stem 0 is attached a small funnel-shaped cup, D, having several small holes, d, formed in it around the stem 0 to allow the oil that may enter the said cup D to flow down into the cup D. The cup D forms the top of the cap E, which cap is made in the shape of an inverted funnel, and of such a size and length as to cover and lit upon the edge of the cup B when the stem 0 is screwed into its hole. By this construction any oil that may run down the stem 0 from its upper end will be caught, kept free from dust, and held in such a Way that it cannot run out when the oiler is being used, and will flow back into the can A when the stem 0 is unscrewed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the cup B, provided with an inwardly and downwardly projecting ring-flange, b, with the can A and with the stem 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the perforated cup D and the cap E with the stem 0, and with the flanged cup B, formed upon the top of the can A, substantially as herein shown and described.
