UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
GEORGE W. FISHER, OF UNIONTOWN, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
SPONGE-CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,033, dated September 1 3, 1881.
ApplicationfiledJulyQfi, 1881. (Nomodel.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Uniontown, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sponge- Oups and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to sponge-cups, the ob- 1 ject being to provide a sponge-cup of such construction that it may be held upon one of the fingers of the person using it.
It is Well known that there are many persons-such as bank tellers, counters, and clerks-who continually use spongecups in their occupation, and my invention is designed to provide such persons with a sponge-cup which may be easily carried on the finger and more conveniently used than the ordinary cups, and also to avoid the inconvenience of carrying the latter from one desk or counter to another when its user has occasion to temporarily change his working position.
The invention consists in a sponge-cup provided with means for attaching it to the finger of its user.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, illustrating the cup placed in a holder or case; and Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the cup inverted in the holder.
A represents a cup or receptacle for containing the wet sponge b. The upper edge of this in lieu of the rim a-as, for instance, a thin strip i or loop might be formed across the top of the cup to hold the sponge in place.
The cup A is provided on its under side with a loop or ring, 13, of a size to slip on the finger, where it is firmly held and always within easy reach ot'its user.
WVhen removed from the finger the device may be placed into the holder 0 by first inserting the ringB until the bottom edge of the cup A rests upon the annular interior flange, c, of the holder, when the sponge may be used as with the ordinary cnp, Fig. 2. If, however, it is desired to preserve the sponge from dust and air to retain its dampness, the cup may be inverted, as shown in Fig. 3, and the sponge placed downward in the holder, when the top edge of the cupwill rest upon the flange c of the holder.
Having fully described my invention,-what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the cup A, having a rim, a, of a ring or loop, 13, constructed to fit thefinger of its user, so that the cup may be held upon the back of the finger and the device worn as a finger-ring, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. FISHER.
