To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, CHARLES HENRY HY- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Change-Receiving Devices, of which the following is a specification. y
This invention relates to coin handling and has special reference to a change receiver.
An object ofthe invention is to improve and simplify the general construction of devices of this character.-
A second object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction and from which the change can readily be removed by tilting the device, it being arranged so that it always resumes its normal or `upright position.
A third object of the invention is to provide a device of such a character that it can be used as an advertising medium.
lith the above and other objects in view as will hereinafter be fully described, illustrated with the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the claims, in the accompanying drawing, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1, is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2, is a vertical median section through the device.
ln carrying out the object of the invention there is provided a solid base consisting of a substantially hemi-spherical body 10, preferably made of glass and having a flattened portion 11. Extending upward from the base is a short stem or neck 12. This stem or neck carries on its upper end a large shaped receptacle 13 having the diversion inner side lll and terminating into a bottomV port-ion 15 arranged to contain a disk 16 having advertising matter printed thereon, the disk being held in position by a suitable adhesive. Around the top of the base or body portion extends an annular groove 17 arranged to contain an annular band 18 of elastic material and also having advertising matter printed thereon. This band is of such width that it will lit the groove closely and its diameter is so proportioned that it must be expanded slightly in order to get it into position over the top of the base or body portion. It is preferred to make the band of thin Celluloid and said band may be sprung over the top of the device and fitted into the groove 17. By means of this arrangement ofthe band it is prevented from being displaced and like the disk 16 is held in place by an adhesive.` By means of this construction, `when change is deposited in the upper receptacle, it may be readily removed therefrom bysimply pressing on the top or body portion of the base where the band is located with the ends of the fingers which will cause the device to rock on its base so that the change can fall out of the receptacle into the users hands. There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind and for the purpose specified. s
lt is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this device without departing from the material principle thereof It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exa-ct form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such devices as commonly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. ln a device of the character described, a heavy substantially heini-spherical body or base, provided with a flattened bottom portion and with an annular groove extending around 'the top of said .body or base, and a short stem extending upward from the body or base and expanded to form a change receptacle, and an elastic ring adapted to receive advertising matter and consisting of a finger contact piece, said ring being seated in a groove in the base.
2. In a device of the character described, a body or base portion of substantially hemispherical shape, a change receptacle supported on said base, a groove in the top of the body or baseand a ring seated in said groove.
