RULE-HOLDER.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it vknown that I, HARRY R. HAYSLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Louisville, in the county of J efferson, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rule-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. Y
The present invention is directed to improvements in rule holders, and has for .its object to so construct a device of this character that the same can be easily and quickly secured in the pocket of a garment, and is so constructed that a. rule engaged therein will be frictio-nally retained in place so that should the person wearing the device lean over the rule will be prevented from becoming accidentally disengaged', p
With this and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on lines 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The holder comprises a casing 1, which is formed from sheet metal and consists of inner and outer walls 2 and 3, respectively, and side walls 4, said casing being rectangular in cross section so as to conform to the shape of the rule when folded.
The inner wall 3 terminates at its upper edge in a downwardly extending tongue 5, the same being curved inwardly, soas to provide the flared lowef end 7 which permits Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led November 12, 1913. Serial No. 800,640. v

the upper edge of the pocket to be readily engaged between the inner wall and tongue.
The tongue and inner wall 3 are provided with spurs 8, which coact to grip the material forming the pocket of a garment so as to firmly hold the casing in the pocket.
The sides 4 areveach provided with cuts 9; the materials defined by said cuts are forced inwardly to produce resilient fingers 10 which are adapted to yieldingly engage the side edges of a folded rule when the same is engaged in thel casing and pocket of the garment bearingthe device, thus preventing accidental disengagement of the rule should the wearer of the device lean over.
What is claimed is z-f A rule holder constructed and arranged to hold a rule resiliently centered between its sides and comprising a single tubular member rectangular in cross section and provided on opposite sides with downwardly extending spring tongues intermediate its ends and adapted to grasp the sides of a rule between their lower parts, and an extension from the upper end of the back of said tubular member bent downward to form a spring tongue and curved away from the back at its lower end, said tongue and back having upwardly extending prongs struck from .the tongue and member, the prongs on the lower part of the member being spaced away from the center vto permit uninterrupted accessk of the users finger to the tongue whereby the tongue may-be sprung away from the back.
In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature,-
in the presence of two witnesses.
