SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 578,190, dated March 2, 1897.

Beit known that I, WILLIAM A. BARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paeonian Springs, in the county of Loudoun and State of Virginia, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Erasers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in erasers, and more especially to an eraser adapted to be worn on the nger.

It has for its object to provide an eraser which is simple and inexpensive in construction and whichis adapted to be carried by the finger, so as to be always convenient and ready for instant use, at the same time not interfering in anyway with the free use of the finger on which it is worn in writing, drawing, dac., and completely avoiding the liability of being mislaid or lost.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved eraser; Fig. 2, an end view; Fig. 3, a central vertical section on the line 0o fr of Fig. 1; Fig. 4, a plan view of the blank from which the eraserholder is made as it appears when stamped out before being bent into shape.

A represent-s the ring of the eraser, formed in any desired manner from a piece of sheet metal, celluloid, rubber, orother suitable material, the free ends B B of which are bent outward and then inward to form shoulders C and overlapping ends D D. One of said overlapping ends D is provided with a downwardly-projecting flange E, adapted to engage the shoulder on the opposite end D for the purpose of clamping the ends securely together.

F is the holder of the eraser, of similar material as the ring, formed from a suitable blank by slitting the same at b, bending the side portions thereof up to form sides G and bending the end portions downward and then inward until the ends c thereof meet to form a loop I-I.

I is a rubber eraser inserted between the sides G of the holder and held therein by means of a rivet d or in any other suitable manner.

The holder is attached to the ring by inserting the ends D D of the ring in the loop H of the holder and pressing the ring together until the flange E of end D springs over the shoulder C on the end D.

When the rubber eraser has been worn out and it is desired to remove the same and insert a new eraser, itis only necessary to disengage the flange E from the shoulder C, and then by expanding the ring the ends can be drawn out of the loop of the holder and the holder removed and aholder with a new eraser substituted.

I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction as herein shown and described, as the same may be modified without departing from the spirit of my invention.

If desired, the end D of the ring may be made longer and bent down after being inserted through the loop II of the holder, so as to lap farther over the shoulder C, instead of having the flange E formed thereon before being inserted in the loop and sprung over the shoulder.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim isl. An eraser adapted to be used on aiinger comprising an eraser-holder having a loop, and a ring the free ends of which are adapted to engage said loop, substantially as described.

2. An eraser adapted to be used on a finger, comprising an eraser-holder provided with a loop, and a ring having shoulders and overlapping ends, said ends adapted to engage the loop on the holder, and one of the ends provided with a ange adapted to engage the shoulder on the opposite end, substantially as described.

3. Aneraser adapted to be used on the iinger comprising an eraser-holder provided with upturned sides, an eraser secured between said sides, and a loop on the under side thereof, and a ring the ends of which are adapted to engage said loop, substantially as described. f
