My improvement pertains to tie clasps for use with pro-formed ties of the bow type variety. The clasp is of a two element construction, one of the elements being mounted on the back part of the tie itself in the center thereof, while the other part is attached to the collar band to which the tie is to be affixed.

The purpose of my improvement is to provide a clasp permitting easy and prompt engagement of the tie to said band to retain the tie in its place with respect to the collar. Another purpose is to provide a clasp which will hold the tie with both Wings alined in a normal horizontal position, eliminating the tendency of the ties of the sort to swing at an angle to said collar band so that one wing projects above the line of said band while the other wing is swung below said line. A further purpose of my clasp is to provide means to securely attach the tie in place preventing the possibility of accidental disengagement thereof.

I shall now describe my clasp with respect to the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a tie, a supporting band therefor, and of the clasp connecting them together;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of a tie and the elements of my clasp in their disconnected position;

Figure 3 is a top view of the clasp as connecting the tie to the collar band;

Figure 4 is an enlarged plan view of my clasp;

Figure 5 is a bottom view of the clasp from the opposite direction as shown in Figure 3;

Figure 6 is a sectional view on line 6-5 of Figure 4;

Figure '7 is a sectional view on line l-l of Figure 6;

Figure 8 is a perspective view of two members of a modified clasp;

Figure 9 is a sectional view on line 9-9 of the clasp shown in Figure 8;

Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

As shown in the drawings, the pie-formed tie contains on its back side a mounting plate It having a depressed central portion [2 and two side flanges l3. A complementary member of the clasp, generally indicated by numeral M, is made of a strip of sheet metal having a substantially flat'central portion l looped back at both the strip continuing at each end in a reverse loop l1, and extendin parallel to the main portion outwardly. The end portions of the strip marked l8 and 19, respectively, are provided with transversely set two eyes 29 and 2|, respectively, as shown in Figure 2. One of said end portions I9 is attached directly to a collar band Zia. The other end of the band is provided with a hook containing member 22 to fit into said eye 20.

The looped portions l5 form receiving vertical folds for flanges l3 of the mounting plate l4 permitting the mounting plate to be brought into engagement with the receiving member M. This is efiected by having flanges l3 enter into re-' spective inner spaces of loops Hi. In order to prevent the mounting plate from sliding downwardly out of the receiving member, the latter includes lugs 23 turned from the body of the receiving member to form bottom stops under the respective spaces defined by loops l6.

As another provision to keep the two complementary parts of the clasp in engagement with each other, I provide alocking pin 24. The: pin which is horizontally disposed between the end portion l8 of the receiving member 14 and the inner fold of the reverse loop l1, may be shifted through a hole made in said reverse loop I! into a hole in the mounting plate II, as best shown in Figure 6.

The pin is bent into an angle to form a head 25 projecting outwardly through a slot 29 in the end portion l8 of the receiving member l4 said head serving as a means of shifting said pin manually into engagement with said mounting plate. Numeral 25a shows the head of the pin in the disengaged position of said pin. Lateral extensions Zt, integrally connected to the pin, prevent it from falling out of its place.

The modified clasp shown in Figure 8 includes a mounting plate II and a receiving member which is formed of one blank of sheet metal having an eye 28 for attachment to one end of the band Zia. Means for engagement of the flanges l3 are made by severing from the body of the receiving member, at each end, on three sides, a rectangular portion 30 and bending it inwardly along its unsevered side to a parallel but spaced position with the central portion 3!. In this manner a formation is made similar to that made by loop l6, and serves for reception of flanges l3 of the mounting plate. Bottom lugs 32 are provided to prevent the mounting plates from slipping through downwardly out of the receiving member.

In the clasp shown in Figure 10, it; is.the mounting plate attached to the back sideof the tie which has fianges 33 looped back upon themselves as shown at 34 so that said flanges may be slipped over the edges 35 of the central rectangular portion 35 of the complementary unit of the clasp. 'For that purpose the edges of the portion 35 are spaced from the body section of the unit. e 7

It will be obvious that other changes may be made in the construction of my clasp without departingifrom "the inventive principle disclosed herein, *WhatI, "therefore, wish to claim is as follows 1. A two-element tie clasp comprising a plate mounted on the back of a tie, the plate including vertical side flanges in a plane spaced from tithe tie, andareceiving member for said 1nounting plate, connected to a collar encircling textile band, said receiving member being made of an oblong strip of material, the strip including a rectangular flat center, a pair of members in tegrally connected thereto and looped from opposite ends over the sides of the flat center to form receiving ,folds for the flanges of the mounting plate, lugs extending outwardly from the body of the receiving member to close from the bottom the space defined .by theloops, and a pin siideably mounted on thereceiving member for a'inanual shift laterally into an aperture in the side of the mounting plate for retention thereof in its place.
