This invention relates to a buckle for holding together two ends of a strap or belt.

An object of this invention is the production of a buckle which does away with all sewing, riveting or holes in a belt or a strap.

Another object of this invention is the construction of a buckle from a sheet-like blank piece of material, the buckle including a flat body provided at its two ends with wide depending clamping lips, and on each of its two sides with inwardly extending bar lugs, whereby an efficient buckle is produced that will hold together the two ends ofr a strap or a belt with a minimum amount of effort.

A still further object is to produce an efficient buckle by stamping the same from a blank sheet or strip, whereby the buckle can be manufactured in large quantities at a minimum expense.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure l is a perspective view of a belt provided with the buckle of this invention.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of the belt, together with a longitudinal sectional view of the buckle.

Figure 3 is a view in side elevation of the buckle and part of the belt.

Figure 4 is a plan view of the blank buckle prior to the folding of the same.

Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5, Fig. 3, and looking in the direction of the arrows.

In these days of high costs, it is desirable to produce a buckle which can be stamped by automatic machinery, whereby the cost of construction will be reduced to a minimum. Therefore, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which the preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated, the referencenumber I designates the completed buckle and la designates the blank buckle (Fig. 4) prior to it beingr folded to Aproduce the finished product.

The blank Ia is folded along lines 2 to produce the side portions 3, which are at right angles to the nat body 4. Bent inwardly from each of said side portions 3 are two bar lugs 5; these bar lugs 5 are all in the same horizontal plane and are for the purpose of supporting the belt or strap, as will be hereinafter described. The ends of the blank Ia are bent along lines 6 to produce broad downwardly extending clamping lips I, thus completing the formation of the buckle I.

The belt or strap 8 is provided with a primary end 9 and an auxiliary end I0. The primary end 9 is threaded through the buckle I between the flat body 4 and the bar lugs 5 and is turned at I I, Fig. 2, and placed over and in engagement with the set of bar lugs at the left end of the device, as shown. Then the auxiliary end l0 is threaded through the buckle, between the primary end 9 and body 4, to secure the right fit on the body of the wearer; the lips 1 clamping the ends 9 and I0 together for securing the belt in its adjusted position.

To release the belt, all that is required is for the wearer to press inward at the center ofthe ends 9 and I0, which are within the buckle, to cause them to assume the position as shown in Fig. 3, whereupon the belt can be adjusted, or the ends separated by the withdrawal of the Aauxiliary end l0 from the buckle.

While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A belt buckle formed from a blank and comprising an elongated rectangular centrally disposed imperfrorate body, a side portion extending from each of the longer sides of the body and dened therefrom by a fold line, each of said side portions having a spaced pair of arms extending therefrom and defined by fold lines REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
