3 Claims.
The invention relates Ito an eraser for use on Pencils or the like, and more particularly to combined moisteners and erasers.
The primary object of the invention is .the provision of an eraser of this character, wherein `a sponge rubber area is provided therein, so that such area will be available for moistening purposes, as well as for enabling a convenient grip upon a sheet or a page of paper for the easy turning thereof, the eraser being novel in its construction and is a unique gadget for travelers as vthe same is adapted to be carried upon a, writing Pencil.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an eraser of this character, which is extremely simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and elcient in operation, durable, neat in appearance, readily and easily mountable and demountable on and from a pencil, and inexpensive to manufacture. f
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiments of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pencil with the eraser constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is an enlarged elevation of the eraser.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is an elevation showing a slight modication.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Same reference characters indicate the same parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, .that is to say Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, A designates generally a lead pencil of conventional kind, and B denotes generally the eraser constituting the present invention, and hereinafter described in detail. s
'I'he eraser B comprises a body I0, preferably made from rubber, although it may be made from some other suitable abrasive material for erasure purposes. The body I has approximately oneh-alf thereof forming an inverted truncated substantially conical shaped nipple II, while the re- (Cl. 1Z0-40) 2 maining other one-half of said body I 0 is an outwardly tapered flat faced erasing tip I 2, the fiat faces being identified at I3.
The nipple II is provided with a central bore I4 of circular formation and in this bore is accommodated the blunt end of the pencil A for the frictional mounting of the eraser thereon.
The bore I4 is extended angularly in the manner as indicated at I5 through one flat face I3 of .the tip I2 and anchored in any desirable manner in this portion I5 of the bore is a sponge rubber piece I6 which protrudes slightly beyond the face I3 as at IB to afford a sponge rubber area on the tip I2 for moistemng purposes as the occasion may require or for gripping a piece of material for the turning thereof, as for example the page of a book or the like.
In Figures 4 and 5 of the -drawing there is shown a slight modification of the invention, wherein the body Il of the eraser has Windows I8 in the fiat opposed faces I9 of the tip 20, and these windows constitute laterals of the bore 2I in the nipple 22 of the body I1, While fitting Within the laterals is the sponge rubber filler 23 therefor.
What is claimed is:
1. An eraser of the kind described comprising a body of erasing material, approximately onehalf of which forms an inverted truncated substantially conical shaped nipple, which .the other half forms a hollow outwardly tapered flat faced erasing tip, a central bore of circular formation, formed in said nipple and extending into said tip' and through one fiat face thereof and sponge rubber anchored in said bore and adapted to protrude from said bore slightly beyond the face of said tip.
2. The invention as in claim 1, wherein the exposure of the sponge rubber is one of the nat 40 faces of the tip.
3. The invention as in claim 1 wherein the exposure of the sponge rubber is at several of the flat faces of the tip.
