BLAIN'E W. ODOM, OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
FOUNTAIN-PEN BLOTTING ATTACHMENT.
memes.
h To all whom t may concern:
material.
.its cap is removed to render the `Be it known that I, BLAINE W. ODoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pen Blotting Attachments, of which the following is a speciication.
- The object of my present invention is the,
provision of a simple and eflicient blotting attachment for fountain pens and one that is adapted to be manipulated with great facility and is so constructed as not to detract from `the appearance of the pen when used in the ordinary well known manner.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists `in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof Figure 1 is a'longitudinal diametrical section illustrative of so much of a fountain pen as is necessary to make clear the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 is `a view showing my attachment in side elevation as the same appears when blotting member ready for use.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the complete pen equipped with my novel attachment, and as the same appears with the pen in condition to be carried in the pocket.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings. y
rllhe 'fountain pen includes the usual reservoir member 1 by which the pen point 2 is carried,'and it also comprises a removable cover or guard member 3 'for the en point.
The guard member 3 is provi, ed in its `outer end with a socket 4 to receive a threaded plug 5 which is preferably of hard vul- -canized rubber. This latter construction is in. accordance with my invention,l and also in accordance with the invention a stem 6, preferably of metal is provided with an enlargement 7 which is fixed in the longitudinal cenyter of the lug 5 at the time of manufacture thereof. ounted on and revoluble about the stem 6 is a roller 8 of blotting paper or other appropriate blotting or ink absorbing 'Ihe said roller 8 is molded or otherwise formed in one piece and is of truncated cone configuration for obvious reasons. In order to assure free turning of 'the roller 8 about the stem 6, a washer 9 is Specification of Letters Patent.
:Patented Aug. 9, 192,1.
Application filedv February 14, 1921. Serial No.444,741.
`also loosely mounted on the stem 6 atthe outer end of the roller 8, and the outer end of the stem 6 is upset as indicated by 11 in order to retain the said washer 1() in working position.
y improvement also includes a cap 12 that is frictionally or otherwise removably secured on the cover or guard member 3.
Manifestly when the cap 12 is removed to expose the roller 8, the said roller 8 may be4 conveniently rolled over the written matter to be blotted, and this when the guard member 3 is positioned on the reservoir member 1 of the pen or is removed from the said reservoir member l.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that notwithstanding the utility of my no-vel attachment and the facility with which the said attachment may be employed,l the attachment is simple and inexpensive in construction and is not liable to detract in any measure from the' finished and compact appearance of a fountain pen.
Having described my invention, what I .claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, 1s
1. A fountain pen attachment comprising a guard member in the outer end of which is a socket, a cap mounted on and removable from said guard member, a plug secured in the said socket of the guard member, a stem having an enlargement at one end secured in the said plug and also having its outer end upset, a blotting roller mounted on and revoluble about the said stem, a washer loosely surrounding the stem and interposed between the base of the rolle;l and the said plug, and a washer loosely mounted on the stem and'interposed between the outer end of the roller and the upset portion of the stem.
2. A fountain pen attachment comprislng a guard member in the outer end of which is a socket, a cap mounted on and removable from said guard member, a plug secured in f the said socket of the guard member, a stem having an enlargement at zone end secured in the said plug, and a blotting roller mount- BLAiNE w. oDoM.
