PENCHL SE.
Application med tuguat 6, 1921. Serial No. 490,423. f
To all wkowi it may concern:
lBe it known that ll, PEDRO J. CALvnNTo, of Manila, Philippine Islands, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Pencil Cases; and ll do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enseat for the pointed end of the pencil andl which may be displaced relatively to a .complementary part of the casing to protect the exposed lead of the pencil when not in use. lin the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation and lFigure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View o-f In improved pencil case. Figure 8 is a detac ed view of the sharpener andguard attachment. Pi re 4 shows the cap removed with the free edge of a roll of paper projecting through the slot thereof.
My improved pencil case is primarily designed to give a proper balance to the pencil notwithstanding the length of the latter, and l attain this and the further advantage of being able to consume a pencil almost in its entirety by providing a cylinder 1 screw threaded on its exterior and having an opening 2 in its otherwise closed end 3 and within which cylinder a pencil 4 is designed to be received. At one end of the cylinder and in screw threaded telescopio engagement therewith is a sleeve 5 having at its outer end and detachably secured thereto a. cone shaped member 6 which has an opening 7' at its apex and a longitudinal slot 8 in connection therewith. A cutting blade 9 projects partly over the' slot and intercepts the periphery of the cone, such blade forming a pencll sharp.
ening means. 0n the exterior of the cone and approximately diametrically opposite the slotted ortion thereof l[- provide a holder .10 for a ru ber eraser. At the other end of the cylinder 1 is a cap 12. llt is of cylindrical form with a screw threaded end 13 by which it is fastened to the cylinder l. Within this cap ll propose placing a small roll of paper, indicated at A, which will serve for jotting down memoranda, the paper being readily withdrawn from the roll through an openmg 14 of the cap and torn by using one of the wallsof the slot as a knife edge. .The
roll is readily introduced into the cap throughtheouter end and a closure 15 is then screwed` thereon. rlhis closure has a tension block 16 attached to its inner face and between which an-d a transverse, cen'- trally apertured wall 17. the paper roll is held. Manifestly upon loosening the closure 15 the roll may freely revolve within the cap and upon tightening the closure the roll is prevented from movement. Conveniently secured to the cap is a clip 18 by which thel pencil may be retained in the pocket of the user.
Within the cylinder 1 is a headed follower 20. lits screw threaded shank 21 projects through the opening 3 and through the central aperture of the wall 17, a-milled nut 22 -on the shank 21 and located between the en d of the cylinder and the wall of the cap the means by which the position of the follower in the cylinder is controlled. As the pencil becomes shorter this milled nut is turned to cause the follower to push the pencil down into engagement with the cone shaped member 6, the cap being removed to give access to the milled nut. rllhe free end of the shank may be tapered to form a screw driver edge 23, a Atool being thus provided by which screws of the blade 9 may be manipulated in removing and replacing the blade or in o-therwise ad'usting it.
The threade engagement between the sleeve and cylinder permits movement of the sleevetolengthen the encill case and thus form a protection for t e exposed lead when the pencil is not in use, telescoping movement of the sleeve on the cylinder ,readily bringing the point into operative position through the opening 7.
I claim as my invention:
lin a pencil case, a cylinder having an titl opening in one end and also having a sleeve at one end and a cap4 at the other, each in screw threaded engagement with the cylinder, and said capv having a transverse aperl'tured wall, said cylinder having aheaded in writing position, said sleeve h'aving a forming a receiver for aI roll of paper, the cone shaped member detachably secured cap havlng a longitudinal slot through which thereto at one end and havin an opening at the paper may be Withdrawn. 10 its apex and a, longitudinal s ot in communi- In testimony whereof I have signed this 5 cationtherewith, anda cutting blade' prospecification. i
jecting partlylover said slot and intercepting the peripheral line of the cone, and said cap PEDRO CALVENTO.
