Abstract
375,457. Fountain pens. VIVIAN, G. S., 237, Norbury Crescent, Norbury, London, and FORD, Ltd., T. B., Snakeley Paper Mill, Loudwater, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. April 2, 1931, No. 10119. [Class 146 (iii).] A self-filling fountain pen comprises a tubular transparent reservoir 2 having at its opposite ends the nib-section 4 and a relatively-movable operatirig-cap 12 for the selffilling mechanism extending beyond the end of the reservoir, and a sheath 1 extending completely over the reservoir from the nibsection to the cap. The sheath may be of vulcanite, metal, or other material or composition and may be held in place frictionally or by screwing. If formed of metal, the sheath is preferably provided with perforations arranged in the form of an ornamental design so that the amount of ink in the reservoir can be seen without removal of the sheath. The cap 12, which is preferably associated with self-filling mechanism of the type described in Specifications 337,794, 337,835, [both in Class 146 (iii), Writing- appliances &c.], and 359,230, is slidable on a bush 13 projecting from the reservoir and is formed with a screw-thread by means of which it is attached to the sheath. A spring 16 is mounted between the bush 13 and cap 12. The sheath is formed with an internal shoulder 18 adapted to be drawn into engagement with a ledge at the junction of the reservoir and nibsection. The reservoir may be reinforced at the front end by a metal band 22 clamped round the reservoir, the nib-section being inserted into the reinforced part. A nibcovering cap is provided which may screw on to the end of the sheath or, as shown in Fig. 3, may be formed integral with the sheath, in which case the reservoir is uncovered each time the cap is removed for use and is so formed that the sheath can be applied from either end. The cap is preferably formed with a concentric tubular section 7 to contact with the end of the nib-section and so prevent ink from leaking on to the exterior of the reservoir and sheath. The section 7 is detachable, and a pocket-clip 21 may be secured in place between the section 7 and the main part of the cap.
