@Km/vm UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
JAMES LALLY, OF KENDALL, NEW YORK.
TRACE-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part o f Letters Patent No. 234,991, dated November 30, 1880.
' I Application filed April23, 1880. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES LALLY, of Kendall, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented an Improved Trace- Buckle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in two-part buckles used to connect the trace, haine-tug, saddle, and girth straps of a harness; and the object ot' my improvement is to diminish the cost and labor of producing a two-part buckle that can be permanently connected by means of the haine-tug when in practical use.
Heretofore two-part buckles have been formed and detachably connected when fastened to a hame-tug, and the two parts have also been permanently connected by means of loops passed beneath the cross ot one ot' the parts, and their free ends passed through perforations in the sliding1 part and then riveted.
My improvement consists in forming a twopart buckle in such a manner that the end of one part can be passed through a loop on the sliding part and fastened to a haine-tug in such a manner that the two separate parts of the buckle will be adj ustably and permanently conuected by means of the haine-tug, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure l of my drawings is a side view of my buckle. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing my,buckle applied. Together they illustrate the construction and operation of my complete invention.
a represents the base-frame of my buckle.
Its parallel side bars, b b, are bent at right angles at their rear ends and connected by a wide and slotted bar, c. The center and front ends of the bars are connected bycross-bars d d ot' smaller dimensions and on a different plane Afrom the bar c.
e represents the ,sliding frame. fis a loop formed integral therewith on its lower side. g g are loops formed integral with its ends, one to receive the end of a girth and the other to receive a strap that extends from a harness saddle.
h is a rigidly-lixed tongue projecting vertically from or near its center.
The two frames or parts of my buckle are connected by passing the front end. of the frame a, through the loopfof the frame c, and then attaching the hame-tug to the front end ot the said frame a., to prevent the two parts from becoming separated when a trace is withdrawn, and to allow the frame cfg h to slide longitudinally on the frame a, for the purpose ot' freeing and adjusting the trace.
I claim as my invention- As an improved article of manufacture, the two-part trace-buckle composed of the frame a b c d and the detachable and sliding frame e, having a loop,f, on its under side, loops g at its ends, and a tongue, h, on its ltop side,
substantially as shown and described, for the purposes specified.
