Description

. J. S. NELSON.
Tug Buckle.
Modem No. 241,403. Patented May 10,1881
27;; 6mm pZfw/ww N. PEI'ERS. Fhalo-Ufiwgnpher, Washingion, .0.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. NELSON, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO OLIVER H.
ANDERSON, OF SAME PLACE.
TUG-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, J. S. NELSON, of Springr field,in the county of Glarke, andin the State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Tug-Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improve ments in tugbuckles for harness; and it has forits objects to relieve the tongue of the buckle,
I to as great an extent as possible, of the strain I5 usually brought to bear upon it, and obviate the liability of the tug tearing the strap, and
v to provide a buckle that may readily be secured to and adjusted upon the harness without sewin g, as more fully hereinafter specified. These '20 objects 1 attain by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a top view of 1n y improved buckle applied to a strap. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of my improved buckle; and
,25 Fig. 3 represents a detached view of a portion of the buckle.
y The IetterAindicatcs the frame of the buckle,
which is provided at its forward end with a transverse draftbar, B, around which the 5 0 hame-tug is to be secured. The said frame is also provided with a central transverse bar, 0,
i which forms a bearin g for the tongue. At the r rear of the frame is formed a loop, D, for the retention of the breeching or holdback-strap.
5 Midway between the front and rear ends of the Patent No. 241,403, dated May 10, 1881.
Application filed January 4, 1881. (Model) buckle-frame are located two recesses, E E, one at each side of the frame, which form seats for the loose tongue-bar I The said tongue-bar at its ends is formed with loops G, for the reception of the back and belly bands. By means of these loops the tonguebar can be turned conveniently in its seats to release the tongue from the aperture in the strap.
The operation of my invention will be readily understood in connection with the above description. The cross-bar at the forward end is secured to the tug-strap in any convenient manner, and the end of the strap to be secured is fastened by drawing said strap through the buckle, as indicated in Fig. 2, and passing the tongue through one of theapertures in said strap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The tug-buckle consisting of the frame A, provided with transverse draft-bar B, central transverse bar, 0, and loop D, and having recesses E E, forming seats, in which are located the opposite sides of the ton gue-bar F, the said bar being provided at its extremities with loops Gr, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I'claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of 65 December, 1880.
JAMES S. NELSON. Witnesses:
