To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE G. BUGBEE, of Gonzales, in the county of Gonzales and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Buckle, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to bucklesfor harness or other purposes, adapted for connection to a strap or billet without sewing; and theinvention consists in a buckle having a rigid crossbar, that is formed with a loop or cran k-shaped i tongue, over which the billet or strap is placed to secure the buckle, and on which the swinging tongue ot' the buckle is secured, this con struction rendering the buckle more compact and of better appearance than double-tongue buckles as heretofore made, and giving a wider range of use for the buckle.

The improved buckle is shown in the accompanying drawings, and will be more particularly described with reference thereto. A

The bar c is at one side of the middle point in the length of the frame ma, and is formed with a loop or crank-shaped'portion, c', projecting in the plane of frame a', to which loop c the ,tongue d is hun g. viding the bar c, as shown; or, for greater strength, the bar c may be solid or continuous, as in Fig. 3.

The loop-piece b is attached at one end of frame a, and elevated toA permit the strap to pass between it and the end of frame a..

In use the buckle is attached to the end ot' a strap or billet by inserting the tongue d and loop c' through' a hole made for the purposeiu the end of the strap, the strap, as shown at f, bein g then drawn down upon the loop c against the bar c, so that the tongue d is left free for use ior connection to a strap, as usual. The looppiece b tends to retain the strap in place upon the loop o', and also serves for usein the usual manner to retain the strap end extending from tongue cl.

This buckle is adapted for harness or for other purposes, and as a harness-buckle it may beused on any portion of the harness. It is much shorter than buckles made with double tongue and two cross-bars for connection to a strap without sewing, and presents a better appearance.

I do not limit myself to the buckle having its parts arranged and proportioned exactly as shown.

Havingthus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a buckle, the cross-bar c, formed with the rigid4 projection or loop c', to which the tongue d is hinged, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

2. In a buckle, the cross-bar c, formed with the rigid loop or projection c', the tongue d, looppiece b, and the frame ct, all constructed substantially as described and shown, and for the purposes set forth.,
