Y Brooklyn, Kings count-y, New York, have in- UNITED STATES PATENT JOHN G. KLETT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,774, dated October 26, 1880.
Application filed August 14, 1880.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN G. KLETT, of
vented a new and Improved Clasp, of which the following is a specication.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved clasp for pocketbooks, satchels, Src., which is simple in construction, efcient, and convenient in use.
The invention consists in a spring-plate provided with a knob or button, and with iianges on the opposite ends, one of which iianges is securely attached to one part of the frame of a pocket-book, satchel, Src., whereas the other flange catches on a stud on the other part oi' the frame, or catches on the edge of the frame itself', thereby holding the two parts of the frame together and locking the pocket-book.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a cross-sectional elevation of' the frame of a pocket-book provided with my improved clasp, the pocket-book being closed. Fig. 2 is a crosssectional elevation ot' the frame of a Satchel provided with my improved clasp, showin g the satchel opened; and Fig. 3 is a plan view ot' a part ot' the frame ot' a pocket-book or Satchel provided with my improved clasp.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A plate, A, ot' some suitable spring metal, is provided with a narrow flange, B, and abroad ange, O, at two opposite ends, and the broad flange O is riveted, soldered, or otherwise suitably attached to the part D of the frame of a pocket book, Satchel, 85e., or made integral therewith in such a Inanner that the plate A projects over the said part D of' the frame, as shown.
(No model.)
The part E of the pocket-book frame is provided with a stud, F, beveled toward the inner edge, on which stud the narrow flange B of the plate A catches on the outer edge of' the part E ofthe frame.
The part D of the frame passes below the part E, and the plate A passes over the part E, as shown.
By pressingthe two parts together the ilange B catches on the stud F, or on the outer edge of the part E, and thus holds the two parts of the frame together, thereby locking the book.
By holding the part E of theframe and pressing the knob or button G, attached to the top of the plate A, in the direction of the arrow a', the flange B is released from the stud F, and the frames can he separated.
As the plate A is made ot` spring metal, no springs are required, and the clasp virtually consists only of asingle part, which cannot get out of order, locks the book in a reliable manner, and is easily operated.
This clasp may be used for pocket-books, satchels, cigar-cases, portfolios, albums, Src.
Having thus described inyinvcntion, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a pocket-hook frame having parts D E, ofthe spring-plate A, having flanges B U, thc flange B arranged to catch on a beveled stud, F, of' part E when both of the parts D E are held in place under the plate A, as and for the purpose speciied.
